  • HID headlamp bulbs

Looking to improve my rural night driving as finding the standard Toyota hi beams don't cut the mustard. Previously I have just thrown a couple of spotties on the bullbar but was thinking that a HID headlamp replacement kit might do a better job without the inherent problems of spotties such as the bullbar vibration, exposure to vandalism or parking/bushbashing damage? Has anyone done this and how did it turn out? Cost? How is the low beam affected?

    Bryan,

I haven't done and haven't done much research on this however was talking to the guys at TJM about it and they were claiming there is a 300% increase in the brightness of the lights and that it was only around the $350 mark. Didn't into too much more detail than that.

      HID lights

Hi why do you want the HID lights? is it to see further down the road when rural night driving ?. I ask because I put some in my Prado so I could see better at night, I have HID on dip and main , yes they are lots brighter than the standard lights ,a bit like going from a candle to a spotlight. BUT although the light is brighter you can see no further down the road than standard lights , yes I have adjusted them up and everyone flashes you . If you want to see in the distance for your rural night driving I would suggest the spotties . I am in Perth you can have a look if you want , Ray .. I have these from E-bay Item number: 160580605453

I put a set of Philips 35w HID on a 150 series and they make a huge difference on high beam, adding several hundred meters to visibility.

          Hi Krypto

Are they spots you have put on or headlight replacement globes?

There is already a lot of discussion in regardsvto hid in the main lights. Please have a look thru them, it doesn't need s new thread. There is also threads on the issues of it being illegal and the resulting defects..
