    Cool bananas .....

The day we get 40 Prados out on a track is the day we need to start looking for a bigger state

I'm really looking forward to the design of these modular drawers. I want to do exactly the same ..... left and right side as modular units .... with an interchangeable fridge slide for the 110 L Waeco .... cargo barrier ... and shelf unit for the middle row of seats.

    Cheers

    • Draws

Will keep that in mind whilst I am doing the design. Maybe I can come up with something that every one can do, one section at a time.

Going to have to draw on all the knowledge that has been posted here with regards to Draw setups and securing systems, and hopefully I can give something back to benifit all our PPers out there.

First draft should be in about 2 weeks, and if all looks good will start a new thread with the plans and pics if I have them for all.

        • I am just drawing up some plans for some drawers and I'm interested to know what size ply others used.

I was planning on using 12mm for the drawers and 17mm for the carcass.

I thought 17mm for the drawers was a little too heavy.

Keep up the great work everyone.

          Thanks

          • I used 15 mm for the carcase and base of the drawers, and 12mm for the drawer sides.

                    • I used 12mm ply and they appear to be very strong, they come in at around the 50kg mark to give you an idea so imagine what they would weigh if using 17mm. I did make up steel brackets though to lock into the original seat mounts on the side of the vehicle.

                        • I've completed my revamp to suit the father-in-laws fridge. I'm using a different 'theory" to most. It's lightweight and offers maximum utilization, I'll take a pic once it's packed.

                          • Great idea there Nige! I especially like the light-weight theme.

Unfortunately for me, I have not yet developed any welding skills. I might have to stick to my novice carpentry.

There must be other options for shelving in the back... I wonder about the suitability of those utility shelves you can self-destruct... I mean construct.

                            Cheers,

I remember seeing a post (maybe on ExploreOz) about some stuff that snaps together but the guy who used it ended up replacing it with a normal construction after it fell apart.

You can have a look into a Quebloc (or Cubelock) solution which is lightweight aluminium with plastic snap in joiners. I was in Bunnings yesterday and saw they have their own system the same where you can buy the lengths of aluminium pre cut to lengths of 0.45, 0.6 and 0.9. These come with or without a lip for supporting either timber or steel mesh.

Have a look at the following to understand the different kinds of joiners
