  • Chippy - I was wondering if there is a "STOP" system to your drawers to prevent anyone pulling the drawers out completely (safety factor). I am betting that you have a setup for this already. If so, can you provide any further details of how you have achieved this as it would be greatly appreciated by all PPers. We dont want anyone removing the drawers quickly to their full extent, especially if the vehicle is facing uphill and the drawers fly out the end when opened.

I'm not sure how to tackle this yet, so looking for some advice here as it would be a good idea to allow the removal the drawers easily when you want to and not have to rip the top of to do so.

I was thinking of attaching a small metal right angle bracket to the inside edge of the drawer opening on both sides, and have a pin at the back of the drawers on both sides that poke through into the cavity that stops when it hits the angle bracket. This pin setup could be spring loaded and connected to the opposing spring pin by a string to allow one-pull to disconnect.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance Chippy.

    • Most good quality draw slides will be designed to prevent the draw from coming out without lifting the end. Thus stopping the draw accidently falling out.

        Hey Gordon,

You can see the little block of wood in this photo that limits the draw from coming all the way out. I would say that this is replicated on the draw as well and they would but together when the draw comes open.

The runners I used in my draws have the stoppers built into them and the top of the box needs to have the screws loosened to allow enough room for the draw to be tilted up and pulled out. So it shouldn't ever come out unless I need it to!

        • Hey Gordon ...

Mitch is correct about the stopper. I have a piece of flat bar attached to the width of the drawer, down the bottom. As the drawer slides out it contacts this block on the side and travel is limited.

I've only used the block as a temporary solution as I didn't have a spare sliding window lock. The idea is to have a sliding window lock ... fitted on the outside ... under the hinged flap .... so that it is a simple process to lock / unlock the drawer and removal doesn't require a heap of disassembly.

          Cheers

                    Damien,

Yes you may ask but you will not like this answer. We paid $775 from ORS at Camden.Yes its aluminium, yes it included the cargo barrier, yes it included a brand new stainless water tank BUT....... there is always a but. It was that cheap because we wanted to modify our old 90 series set up. However the 120 is wider and seeing as our 'old' drawers and tank were still like new they asked if we wanted to go for a wider drawer instead for the same money, which meant they could use our old drawers for someone else. The bonus was a brand spankers water tank as well. The system we have in the pictures retails for about $3,000. So I feel we got a bargin

                    • Damn that BUT!!!!

If i could get it for $775 i would have been on the phone tomorrow!!! :x

Oh well. Looks like me and the chippy's at work will have to make up some outa ply.

There isnt that much material in them, but i guess there is such a limited market so all the R&D has to be made up somewhere.

Any bearing shop will sell them.

Look in the Yellow pages for: Bearings or Power Transmission

I got them from Kwinana Bearings and Belts Part No: 6200-2RS C3 ... but, as Damo says, they will be available from any bearing supplier.

They've got all sorts ... from the U-beaut $10 a pop bearings to the 80 cent Chinese ones .. all depends on how long you want them to last.

The ones I've used are a 10 mm ID and 30 mm OD.

                                Cheers
