  • Towing Mirrors

Recently purchased a new GXL & towed the caravan with it for the 1st time last week. Previously had a Jackaroo & I use towing mirrors that clip over the existing mirror - a plastic strap - not the ones with rubber straps.

The Prado mirrors are a lot bigger & not square. Whilst I could get my existing mirrors on (at the extremity of the strap) they had a tendency to slide out to the outside of the mirror even though they were very tight.

So - I was wondering what towing mirrors others use on Prado's. I have read that Aussie Truck Mirrors are good but they cause a problem where the strap goes to the bottom of the door due to the plastic flares.

    Thanks, Willy

Willy, I contacted a caravan accessory company on the coast and asked them the question.

They said an Ora Enzo was the only one they would recommend.
    I bought a set.

Then hooked up to van and hey I can see clearly both sides and with the Waeco reverse camera , can also see what is behind me.

I now have a set of Ora Enzo that I don't need.

Suggest you hook up and check it out too.

      towing mirrors

I tried to buy a set of the Aussie Truck mirrors today. Whilst they could change the bracket at the bottom to fit over the plastic on the bottom of the door, the PRADO (my GXL at least), has too much rubber on the lip of the door which meant the mirrors hooks at the top couldn't get a firm grip of the door. I guess I'll have to hunt round for those Ora ones.

my father-in-law has some of the Aussie Truck mirrors (or look-a-likes) and a combination of bumpy roads and fitting has made a mess of the window rubbers and scratches on the glass. If you fit them, make sure they are fitted ok before using the windows!

Just come home from a few weeks up the coast towing the Camper Trailer. I have the Aussie Truck Mirrors, and can not rate them highly enough.
As HG Monaro says though, make sure they are firmly fitted, ie re-tighten them as you travel, especially if they get wet as they can snag when putting the windows up.
