  • Trailer stabilizer

I am looking for a stabilizer for my camper trailer. I have seen so many caravans etc fish tailing onthe road it looks so dangerous. Has anyone bought and can recommend a suitable stabilizer?

Any load equalizer set up will do the job- just take them off when you get into the rough [ie big articulation] stuff. If the trailer is well balanced with about 10% if its weight on the towball it shouldn't move around. Neil

      Hi 404pug,

Camper Trailers / Offroad Campers don't require load equalizers as used on caravans, as they prevent the camper from articulating in offroad situations.

Caravans need them given their size (they are longer than a Campertrailer and weight more as well.)
It also gets back to how balanced they are.

I tow a 1.4T Offroad Tvan fitted with DO35 Offroad coupling from Track Trailer, and they never fit towing equalizers.

My suggestion is don't do it

        Ok, Thanks for the advice.

I agree with the articulation issue off road but on road there may have been a use. I suspect many of the issues are to do with poor weight distribution on the trailer.

        Thanks Dave

Have a look at the Gall Boys Fraser island video. They ripped off the entire tow bar assembly off their prado because they left the stabilizers on.
          Cheers, Leon

Hi i tow a 17.5ft jayco discovery outback tandem axle treg hitch we don't use stabilizer bars I do have polyairs in the rear to level the prado out it handles well and follows the prado well even over bad roads I don't feel you need them (my experiences with our setup) never off road
            Cheers Wayne
