im a bit bored so ill post this up . here's something i prepared earlier . i originally wanted to make my own sliders , something a bit different, maybe a bit bling . but then the fat lazy bastard in me overuled that idea . also i was thinking polished stainless but seeing as i can barely weld mild steel let alone staino , id have to get my mate to do it and i don't have a first born or and extra testicle to give him to cover the cost . so i thought id take the easy way out and buy a set from powerful 4x4 , you may have read how that ended badly . stuff em all im gonna whip up a set in the garage , that shouldn't take too long , how hard can it be ? apparently not that easy , or quick . its been a coupla weeks now and they're still not entirely finished , but they have been thoroughly abused (i mean tested ) . here's how they look so far .

here's how it all started. i wanted to mimic the curves of the original sidesteps , so i hired a pipe bender $45 and almost learned how to use it . then realised the steel i had was crappy , so of to the steel shop $100 . the second shot is about the 6th much simpler design . 3rd pic is the redesign stage , where you can see some of the cans of design input in the background .03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . here's a shot of how to use an angle grinder with a flapper wheel properly . it looked better 2 days earlier with the blood running down into my sock . here's a tip , no mater how long you've owned a grinder or how many times you have used it , like the family pitbull , you just never know when its gonna turn on you and attack . luckily i didn't euthanase it in the pool . (there were no cans of design input involved in this incident ) . i ve painted the sliders in charcoal hammered finish rather than powdercoat because i want to be able to touch them up easily , ( already had to do this after the initial testing ) and hammertone is the best friend of the crappy welder , it also can be brushed on and costs $37 from bunnings across the rd . the last 2 pics are a template of the custom perforated polished stainless treadplate that will add a bit of bling to the grande. i have another mate with a fabrication factory and ill punch out the tread pattern on one of his machines . cost so far and i stress this is without the tread plates is under $300 . unfortunately the cost of design input has been exhorbitant .Last edited by kav; 17-03-2012, 07:15 PM.03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . yes thats the hard one . there is about a 10 -15 mm gap between the tank and the chassis rail ,where there is a 10mm hole in the chassis .if you put a bolt through the chassis it comes out where there is a rectangular hole on the inside . i have used a 10mm plate with a threaded hole between the tank and chassis with the bolt shortened to make sure it doesn't rub the tank . its real close but it works , i got the idea from AJ's rear mount . this is the mount point that took the most amount of design input . ill try to get pictures of the mounts tomorrow . the front mounts are captive nuts inside the rail . i realistically spent a crap load more on building these than it would cost to buy them , but i had the time and was able to borrow some of the most important equipment and borrow some input from the guys on this site who have done it before me . otherwise id still be trying to work out the passengers rear mount . cheers kav03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . Hey Kav
I would be putting that grinder down, once they get the taste for blood you cant trust them anymore...
Nice work on the sliders I would be interested in some underbody photos as well, if you could.
ThanksLast edited by Tazdevil; 17-03-2012, 09:32 PM.

Top effort Kav
I like the line of the slider with the profile of the vehicle, well done.
They should look the goods with the punched stainless treads.
Cheers

1st pic is the mid mount point ,you need to miss the chassis welds both inside and out ,2nd inside mid mount you may need to give the brake lines a slight tweak , 3rd rear pax side external , the bolt goes through the chassis in to the threaded backplate which fits between the fuel tank and chassis rail .you can't go over the top of the chassis rail for the rear plate because the brake lines run along the top of the chassis railLast edited by kav; 18-03-2012, 11:22 AM.03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places .
