Thanks MLC. Will be interesting to see if it survives the GTG.

Good work Weasel. Very much the same as one I made for a Beachport trip last year. Mine was two piece and Mrs MLC picked it up a few times as it didn't like the whole 90 degree bend thing, which it did when someone led us down the wrong track (read overgrown). Otherwise, it held up well! I succumbed and bought one for the roof though, as we see sand a lot. You Victorians wouldn't know what soft sand is, so no use for you right
        Diesel Prado with various things...

mlc (back in the dog house when Mrs mlc reads this)

Hi guys, after the 2012 GTG, are there any reports of how the various home made sand flags held up? We'll probably need them for the Simpson to Birdsville later this year and like most, I tend to think $130 is a bit steep.

I put mine on for a bit of a test just before we arrived into Red Bluff. I think it lasted about 300m before a tree bent it over and it snapped at the bottom where the stud was screwed into the conduit and had obviously reduced the wall thickness. It then spent the rest of the time gaffa taped to the front right corner of the roof cage. Didn't have an issue after that so it just goes to show that you can over engineer things when i should have just used gaffa tape!

It also ended up costing me a couple of hundred anyway because when i cut all the tape off and removed the flag at the end of the border track with my Buck knife it got left on the bull bar and hence somewhere at the end of the border track when we drove off! it wasn't till i needed it at Beachport that i realised.

Mine survived fine. Being a tent pole in several sections, when it hit a tree, it just came apart at a section and all I had to do was get out and put it back. Very happy with it and very cheap.
