    Looks as if you are having a few more hick-ups than I did. I only recall the arial pug, no additional power connection......but remember I was only assisting a friend do the install.

    I did complete the camera install myself, and that was very straight forward. Make sure you go to the trouble of a separate overide switch, great for towing.

    Sory I couldn't be more helpful.

      I found that the wire for the antenna needs to be connected to the power supply for the antenna amp on vehicles with film type antenna. Does anyone know (Sig?) if this is the case for Prados??
      Strahan:
      I installed my 7039 on the weekend using the same wiring loom that you used (thanks for the tip on that by the way).

      Was very pleased with the radio reception (no AM interference issues with mine - picked up ABC Adelaide from Sydney when driving around last night) and I don't recall any extra power connection. :?

      If you refer back to your Toyota wiring diag, the power for the antenna amplifier is Pin 8 on plug R1. Dark blue wire on the Toyota loom from memory (I think it also loops back to another pin, but can't find a reference for that one). Anyway, I connected the blue wire from the Kenwood loom marked Antenna Control Wire to this pin - this should power the antenna amp for the on-glass Prado antenna. The actual standard antenna plug went straight into the socket on the radio, nothing extra.

      Perhaps if you had an old car radio antenna laying about, you could connect it up as a test, to see if reception improves. That then might suggest that you have a dud amplifier or perhaps no power to it?

      Make sure you go to the trouble of a separate overide switch, great for towing.
      Sig:
      I don't have my reversing camera yet, so can't test my theory. But if I understand the manual for the 7039 correctly, I think you can select the rear camera input on demand using the V-Sel button. So my theory is that you shouldn't need to install an override switch and diodes, etc. Just scroll through the various video sources until you get the reverse camera pic. Happy to be corrected if someone has this set up already.

          Well bu$%^er me!
          Amazing what you can do when I get the right advice and read the destructions! :lol: :lol:
          Works a charm.
          Steve and Sig- did either of you wire up the dimmer control? I have driven a bit at night and think thats its not really a bother so I have not done mine. If you have, does it adjust up and down with the dimmer control for the dash or is it a 2 stage bright/dim affair?

          Steve you can select rear camera but you will need to wire it to power and also the purple wire from the head unit will have to go to power all the time.
          I'm not sure i power going to the camera always so I have tapped into the wiring at the right rear tailight. White/black for earth, red/black for reverse light.

            Yep, I did wire up the dimmer, just takes the glare off at night. IMO worth doing.

            In relation to the reverse camera.......and I also may be wrong, using V select just changes the input. With my camera, because it only powers up when reverse is selected, choosing the Camera and not being in reverse shows a blank screen. With the over ride switch, it powers up the camera so you can see whilst driving......worth doing.

              Glad to hear you sorted it all out Strahan :-)

              And thanks to both you and Sig - I forgot or didn't realise that the camera would need external power. And doesn't make sense to run it all of the time. But that's a proj for another day.

              Yes, I did wire up the dimmer and I'm with Sig, I think it's worthwhile. It dims (one level only) along with the instrument panel as soon as you turn on your parking lights. I haven't driven much with it at night yet, but the short time I have, I reckon that even dimmed it's still a bit too bright. Think it could become even more distracting when I get out of the bright lights of Sydney. So I've been turning off the display once I've selected my favourite music/radio station. It wakes up as soon as you touch it again.

              Now all we need to do is find out how to make the DVD region free so I can play my US discs. Must be possible, 'cause I've seen them on e-bay advertised as region free. Might have to get on to Google and have a look.

                Thanks for the help guys.

                i will post some pics of my camera install tomorrow. I found that the supplied cable was a smidgeon to short so I will buy another.
                Not sure about the dvd region thing, have not seen any reference to it but let me know if you find out anything!
                Has anyone tried to run a laptop thru the video in cable? Might try mine and see what sort of pic it provides, be good to just see the screen when running ozi explorer.

                  Plugged the Mac powerbook into the head unit this morning. I tried several screen resolution and found one in NTSC that worked quite well.
                  Videos and pictures came up fine.
                  Have not tried my pc laptop yet but hopefully it will be ok so I can voice guidence for my Garmin gps thru it.

                  Ah more tinkering! :twisted: :twisted:

                            I will be going to Jacar tomorrow so I'll drop into South Side Toyota, the part numbers should make it all the easier to get them, can you remember how much you paid for them

                              I see in the specs that the 7039 has a connector for OEM remote steering wheel controls. Has anyone had any success in connecting the steering wheel controls? I'm looking at installing a 7039 in my new Prado, but don't want to lose the use of these buttons.

                                Hi all,

                                Thought some of you (particularly those with the Kenwood units) may be interested in some screen shots of the new topographical mapping I am running on my Kenwood DX 6039.

                                I now have 3 maps installed and can run just one or all three at once, controlled from the 'Map detail' page on the menu.

                                Shot of all three running at once;

                                Or just the topo program;

                                Zoom in or out for more or less detail;

                                Can't wait to get it away from the city so I can see how it performs in the bush;

                                The Oztopo software will run on any Garmin unit.

                                Pretty pleased so far.
