And even better to hear the recovery had a happy ending...

    BTW.... which beach was this
It was Wooli beach, NSW. A Clarence Valley 4WD permit is required to access this beach.

Whilst most of the beach sand is what I am used to, the sand in one particular section was kind-of wet and aerated with a coarser shell content. It was very soggy.

The new MAXTRAX are now all branded with my name, ph, email and ready for City View on Sat. Gotta pack the leashes, just in case

Certainly a great story fo aftermarket service. One day companies\dealers etc will wake up and see the value of good customer service, and I don't mean a token gift basket or keyring when you have just bought a $70K motor vehicle.

I'd always pay a little more a well engineered, well supported product.

I must admit I was in two minds about teh MaxTrax. One side was saying ''$300 bucks for a plastic what'' the other side was seeing me with angry wife, crying child on a 40+ day bogged in the sand with my boys plastic spade...

I've ordered some MaxTrax's after reading about the excellent after sales support and service.

Nice to hear halojump. You won't be disappointed.

I debated the same thing myself... $300 bucks!!! Well, they have got me out of several tricky situations now and they've more than paid their way... as has most of my recovery equipment. I'm yet to use my airjack though

Yep, it was their after-sales care that has got me on the soapbox. A great product and a great company.

Actually wengnuts and I were talking about them yesterday... maxtrax and a hand winch and you would have most situations covered (along with the usual snatch straps etc..) without the expense of an on-board winch.

Hey Matt do they damage easily? I looked at them the other day and thought that the knobby bits would break pretty easy?

Glad to hear you got out of this with only a lost Maxtrax :!:

Often on the NSW mid-north coast beaches you get water movement along the beach which creates small to medium undulations at a diagonal to the beach direction (picture small dunes created by water instead of wind). These have firmer sand on one side and softer (sometimes much softer) sand on the other side. The coarser grain sand is the softer stuff with the smaller grains of sand being more firmly packed. Can be a real trap when the beach is like this if you loose momentum or try to turn on or near the soft side of one of these little dunes - I know I've been caught before

Hi Steve. So far, I've driven over these things a dozen or more times on sand and not even a hint of any kind of damage. I have notice the pointy bits have collected a smidgen of my tyre rubber, so they have definitely been under stress.

I may get to use them at City View this weekend, so I'll keep the reports coming. Though, whatever material they are using, it is incredibly tough.

Mate, I was thinking exactly the same as we were driving off. Still, we all searched and dug holes for about 30mins before the troops began looking mutinous; it was time to call it a day. Being the last day and still needing to pack-up the tents etc, I wasn't going to get a chance to get back down there to scratch around some more.

Thanks for the tips on the sand consistency in NSW. After bogging the second time, I studied the sand for a while in the hope I will remember what it looks like in the future so as to stay out of trouble. Your description is spot on!

                  maxtrax

I just bought a set of maxtrax today from TJM caboolture for $295, haven't used them yet but will likely need them when I tow the camper up the beach in the next few weeks and try to climb the dune to the campsite. Hopefully they work as well as I have heard and seen on the video that comes with them. Great story about their after sale service, rare these days.

Great advert for Max Tracks! They are quite expensive, but we wouldn't go off road without them now.

As for carriage, if you are travelling with the back seats folded up, you'll find they fit laterally across the car in the recess left by the folded up seats, which you can then cover by blankets, pillows, or other camping stuff (2 dalmations and there sleeping mats in our case!).

                    Cheers
                    Geoff.
