  • Cargo barrier with rear cooler and curtain airbags

After some advice from new GXL, VX or Grande owners or earlier VX or Grande owners.
I have ordered an Auto GXL with option pack 1. It has rear cooler and curtain airbags.
Toyota accessories say that their cargo barrier is only suitable for Standard and GX.
What have PP’s learn't about fitting a cargo barriers to these specs vehicles?
Am also considering a drawer system maybe ORS because they are nearly local they have an option for a half or full barrier.
    Any and all advice welcome.

Opposite lock does have a cargo barrier for curtain airbags. If you wanted to get a draw system you don't have much of a choice on cargo barriers as you have to get the half height one. I been told with the full height one you cannot fit a draw system to it later.
    Thanks

        Hi

I enquired about this through ARB.They told me that Black Widow storage do a cargo barrier that works with the updated model (side curtain airbags). From experience it is best to get for example a black widow cargo barrier and drawer system for it is all made to work with each other

Re: Cargo barrier with rear cooler and curtain airbags

I have a Milford cargo barrier fitted in my 2008 GXL that has the Option pack 1 (side airbags and rear cooling). This is a full sized barrier, not a half-height one.

I to have been looking at my options for this.
You could still get a full height cargo barrier (with the curtain airbag gaps), and then build your own draw system. Some of the designs for the draw systems on this site are very good, and not too expensive (check the threads/search).
But if you do buy a commercial draw system, then siukalo is correct in his statement.

I got the full height and half height barriers priced for my 06TD Grande, and the half height one works out more expensive? go figure!

Re: Cargo barrier with rear cooler and curtain airbags

Not sure about the Outback Drawer products but the Black Widow brochure clearly states you can fit their system to an existing full length cargo barrier.
I would imagine the drawers would need to be slightly less deep to accommodate this but there is no mention of any conditions or modifications required so might be worth checking with them directly if you go down this path.

WoW - I have the Opposite Lock cargo barrier and it was specifically designed for the Prado with side air curtains. It has less of a gap that NTPryce's Cargo barrier and it fixes to the rear upper handles above the rear windows and also fits to the floor. No nasty holes to drill in the side of the Prado. I can take a pic if you want a pic. I have also manufactured my own drawers that suits a 40Ltr Engel. It all works very well for me.

Re: Cargo barrier with rear cooler and curtain airbags

Ausguard make a dual position cargo barrier for Prados with curtain airbags BUT do not claim to " be rated nor claim compliance with" Australian Standard AS4034.
I think it might be time to bite the bullet and fit a cargo barrier.
We could all wait a very long time for the draft to be finalized.

Re: Cargo barrier with rear cooler and curtain airbags

Here is the Ausguard cargo barrier that I installed a few months ago. As you can see, there is no side gaps compared to the Milford cargo barrier. It is specifically rated for the Prado Grande with side air curtains. I have the GXL with side air curtains that is the same as the Grande.

There are four anchor points, two on the floor and two that attach to the grab handles at the top of the car on each side. The top connections are designed for no drilling . All you need is a screwdriver to remove the grab handles and place the special securing bar behind the grab handles and screw them back on securely. There is a special wire-type connector rod that has some minimal adjustment that allows slight movement in the cargo barrier. Very easily installed with the use of an allen key. This type of installation has the securing point above where the airbag would deploy if triggered. So there is no issue.

The only issue I had was drilling 6 x 10mm holes into the floor. Instead, I cut the long thin steel floor mounting brackets that you see in the top picture and drilled an 11mm hole in the end. I then removed one bolt that is used to secure the rear seat security points, then fed the newly drilled/shortened bracket through the bolt and replaced the seat security point to the floor. The reason I did it this way was instead of drilling 3 parallel holes on each side of the floor in the rear (not a rated point), I used the manufactures securing point.

Here is the compliance plate. The product code is "06/815C" and the part No is "114BM". I don't believe that the standard has been set. Until the standard has been agreed and written, Ausguard cannot guarantee that their cargo barrier meets the new standard until it has been released.
