  • Prado 120 roof rack/tray length???

Hi all, I am after some advise on the length of a tray, I want to ensure I get the right tray and the right length. I am currently looking at one that is 210cm x 115cm or 190cm x 110cm and also 170cm x 110cm, my Prado has a sun roof, but i am not too concerned about the tray blocking some of the view...

I just want to make sure I get the right tray, you can have a look at what I am interested in getting here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TOYOTA-LA...-/390123104891

I want to use this rack for when we go camping and put our cargo and boxes on this tray, as the rear of the car is full with a fridge and clothes, etc...

Thank you for your help, any suggestions will be appreciated and pictures of your trays as well, of course any good/bad experiences and where to go and not to go... Thanks!!!!

I've got the ARB alloy one. Mate of mine has the one you are looking at on eBay. Mine is light enough that I can take it on and off by myself (about 22kg from memory) I think his is closer to 45 kg. bear in mind max load on the roof is 100kg, so nearly half of that would be taken up by the tray itself.
I've used mine on a few trips loaded up with all our light weight / bulky camp stuff like tent sleeping bags /mats, folding chairs , table. I got a canvas bag made up to fit it so I can have the bag and then on the other side I can have gazebo. At the back put gas bottle and small Gerry can of fuel for chain saw. Seems to work pretty well for me.
I take it off for long trips if I don't need it as it is noisy and chews fuel. Also it doesn't fit under some of the lower car parks in shopping centres in the city. I'm lucky my local shops have 2.3m clearance so no need to remove it for that.
Other guys on here have a rack called a wind cheetah, also check out the black widow rack, it sits a bit lower and is a bit longer than mine, plenty of options out there.
    Cheers
    Phil

210 will be fine - I've got a ROLA tray that's 210 x 120. It will cover a fair bit of your sun roof though. 115 will be full width, Rhino make theirs 113 from memory. 120 is just a fraction wider than the roof.

        Hey all,
To avoid starting new thread im resurrecting old one. I'm looking at a couple of racks/cages and I can get a 2200 for a good price but I think it looks a bit weird with the huge overhang. anyone have any side on pics with the 2200 on the car, or any comments about that length? I only need 1600 to fit my tent, but the 2200 is cheaper. though reading about fuel econ figures I might just get those aluminium ones that go on cross bars for easy removal.

Is the tent a roof top tent?

2200mm is a bit too long in terms of looks and the extra weight. Under 2000mm is a good size.

one of those instant tents. its 1.4 m long. after reading some more thread the whole petrol and fuel consumption is bothering me. Im probably going to go with one of those aluminium trays that sit on top of cross bars. perfect for my intended light duties and easy to pull off. thanks
