  • GPS/DVD/Reverse Camera suggestions?

    Hi all

Still new to posting here so hopefully I'm in the right place. I want to fit a reverse camera to my 2005 GXL 120 - still has the stock stereo though so makes sense to replace it with an all-in-one GPS/DVD/Reverse Cam/etc. There are a bunch of different models on eBay and I have no idea what's good and what's crap. What aftermarket units have people here fitted and had success with? I have young kids so I like the fact that this one comes with headrest monitors:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GPS-DVD-p...item461238b401

I can also buy reverse sensors that work with it. But the interface looks like its from the 90s. Has anyone installed this, or any other units recently that they'd recommend?

    Thanks!

    Brett.

That one looks exactly like my Dodgy options unit which is easily the worst thing I have fitted to my Prado, the reverse camera is about the only part that works OK.

Sorry but can't help you with a good one.

    Cheers Andrew

My Digoptions unit hasn't missed a beat. Sure it's not the best screen in the world when the glare is on it, but for the money I paid I cant complain...

Polaris have a very good unit, can be optioned with ozi explorer, tyre pressure monitoring
and I think the latest one can also have two reversing cameras. After sales service and support
        is excellent.

        Cheers

Hey mate, there are a quite a few good ones out there worth spending the extra on. I fit a lot of them myself. Here is the things to look for...

Windows CE 6 (not 5) or Android operating system
          Steering wheel compatability
Capacative touchscreen and not resistive touchscreen (your smart phones have capacative... older touch screen gps units and other crap use the resistive.
          Multipoint touch

If you want I can put in touch with my distributor who supplies direct to the public also. His unit for the Prado is about $550 (might actually be less)

Here is the features I have listed
          Reverse camera
          800x480 resolution
          1080P playback
          optional TV Tuner (seriously?)
Split screen (GPS and iPod if you want)
          File Management
20CD Virtual changer (inbuilt hard drive)
Bluetooth including voicedialing and contact dialing
          iPod
GPS (both On and Off Road)
          Dual Zone
          3d graphical flashy whizzbang interface

I'd probably suggest smsing him first because of his accent, he gets very excited about his product and then you lose complete track of what he is saying.

Let him know that you know me (Ray the alarm guy) and he will take care of you. Might even get a better price from him. But I do know his shipping cost on these units is massive.

I'm really happy with the Asteroid SMART. Great screen, basically an Android tablet stereo but no DVD.

Thanks for the thoughts, all. Good to know what I should aim for and avoid Open to more suggestions too if anyone has any. Will update when I eventually make a decision and let everyone know how good (or otherwise) that decision was!

We've had a Dig-options TP09X1 in our 120 series for nearly 5 years, and I would thouroughly recommend it. Great aftersales service from Matt also.

I've got a DigiOptions on offer if anyone wants it. CD Drive not working, no reverse cam. Make an offer.

The Parrot Smart is working well. The screen is sharp but it is a bit smaller than the 7" jobs (I think its 6.2") Day to day use for audio and phone, it is far more user friendly than the Digiotions style units. The voice control is really good, which surprises me given the difficulty other systems have based on my own attempts and their need for US/UK/Aus language settings.

The DigOptions one is in, seems to be a functional little unit. The glare on the screen can make it unreadable at the wrong angles - not sure if other units fair better in this regard. Very responsive though. Software does what you want it to do, GPS even worked in the CBD surrounded by high-rises which impressed me. I think, for the money, you couldn't get much better.

problem with my Polaris DVD / GPS

I have a problem with my Polaris DVD / GPS
Can anyone help .....cant seem to get any help at all from the Polaris people always seem to be too busy to talk to me.
                          The problem is:
Some months ago I had an intermitting problem with the DVD player not working , it would display the wording "No Disc" upon loading, however, now and then it would rectify itself. The latest problem is it the whole system is down and displays the wording "No Device" in the top right hand corner of the unit.
If I could find a company that fixes these in Melbourne it would be much appreciated

                          thanks in advance

                            Hey Morrie_1,

Not sure if this will help your unit but my ebay 602c headunit had a similar problem but just with the GPS.

I was loading new software on the sd card and setting up the screen when it blanked out to 'No Device'. radio, bluetooteh etc still all worked but no gps.

ended up fixing the problem by disconnecting the battery so the unit would hard reset itself has happened a 3 times in the last 6 months but the battery disconnect does the trick.

                            hope this helps.
