  • Tigerz11 Domin8R Winch

Probably should be in a general accessories section, but that doesn't exist - ?mods could create one...

I fitted a Domin8R winch a couple of months ago, so thought I would write up a few comments.

It fitted pretty easily after I removed the old Aldi winch. I used the same input wiring to save time, but used the new wiring for the rest.

Its certainly a bigger and heavier item than the Aldi. Fairly well put together, but a few issues.

Here it is fitted to the ARB winch bar

It was a tight fit, but managed to get it in from the top. I had to carefully bend the aircon pipe a little to get it out of the way. I also removed the support and refitted the clamp to the top of the holder once I replaced it.

There were a couple of issues -

There was a tiny crack in the control box, which I was concerned would cause a leak. Its under the right red lead in the pic. I covered it with silicon sealer so hopefully won't be an issue. The dealer is too far away to bother returning it.

Another issue was the mount on the control box. It needs to be rotated to make it work. I don't know why they couldn't put it on the correct way first up.

FInally I had an issue with the handle used to engage the gears. It was very rattly when "engaged". After much fiddling around it turns out that it needs to have the spool rolled around a little to get it to engage properly, Then the rattles disappear.

I've only tried it out puling the car up a slope on our road to tighten the rope. Seems to work well.

In retrospect the 7hp winch from Roo Systems seems better value.- quicker spool and same force. - just a thought.

So is the bottom of the control box always open like it is in the photo? Is the solenoid itself sealed?

Modern quality solenoids are sealed unlike the old round metal continues duty solenoid type.

My Tigerz11 Grande one has a Thompson solenoid inside a metal case. It looks like this one except this is the bare solenoid :-
