I have same unit too & fitted to same place. I have fitted to the left more so that the power outlet plug can be accessed freely. Good unit though, love it.
Drive it like you own it!!

Got mine in exactly the same location, Stitch.

I went for the GME unit - as luck would have it, only days before the new models were announced...

What else do you do on a wet Saturday morning ?
Fit the UHF radio to the Prado !

It's the GME TX3400 with the remote head

                All in, nice and neat.

Thanks for the tips. It's a great fit and real subtle.

The rest of the unit sits up above the driver's left foot. There's a whole heap of room up there. An aluminium plate is screwed to the kick panel and sits up a further 100mm. This gives a nice solid mounting point for the radio's bracket - accessible, out of the way, and easy to hear any radio chatter with the speaker facing out.

The UHF aerial grabs pride of place on the Soveriegn bar's only mounting point. There's a little bit of stealth wiring happening here - as the aerial cable disappears though a rubber grommet into the cavity. There's another hole and rubber grommet through the bar (concealed inside the cavity) before the cable (all of it inside split tubing) makes it's way through the engine bay and into the cab.

That's one project down - heaps to go.

Who needs a workshop manual with all of the tips and pics posted on this forum.

                Cheers

Chippy, That's awsome. I love the way you routed the co-ax for the UHF inside the bull bar upright. Wish I'd thought of that!

                  Well done,

                  Drew.

                    Hey Drew

This is what happens when a bloke spends 20 years working in city high schools - I have a tendency to make everything as hard to nick as possible.

Have done the same with the spotties. You may have seen these already.

                    Cheers

                      Chippy,

Looking at this pic, have you got the tubing going thru the hole as well or just the cable? (question to follow depending on answer!)

                      Nige.

                        Hey HG

The split tubing covers the coax all the way to the firewall.

The whole lot passes through this rubber grommet in the plastic and runs down inside the upright. Down on the bar there is a seam - where the separate pieces of the alloy bar are joined (no - it's not all one piece). To the inside of that seam is a nice flat spot of single thickness alloy - that is still hidden when the plastic is screwed back in place on the upright.

I used a small pilot bit to drill through here - from the top. Then I used a larger bit to drill out the full sized hole - from the underneath. Pass the split tube and coax through the grommet first - then use a small flat screwdriver tip to press the grommet into place inside the hole.

Have I spoilt your fun and answered the next question yet ?

BTW - that upright now hides both the UHF and the FM aerial coax.

                        Cheers

                          Hi EvoGXL.

I purchased my GPS from Terlin outbacker
They are in ummmm Near the swan brewery.
they sell all that stuf and were ready to talk all sorts of stuff with me.

                          Jeff.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

Just be aware that Prestige have sold "Grey" import HF radios in the past and you may have warranty issues if you get problems. ops:

Someone posted this on this forum recently.
