I also agonised over the noise issue before getting my safari.

End result - I worried for nothing.

If I could fit a second snorkel, I would...

Well I have just been snorkelised. Just drove back from ARB in Newcastle after having the Safari fitted.

I was deliberately listening for any wind noise but could not hear any at all. It has definitely improved the fuel economy judging bby the figures I was observing on the scanguage, maybe by as much as 0.5 litres/100 kms better than stock.

Excellent news - just been thinking I should 'just get it done'. I've had some beef with ARB recently, so will still get a Safari, but probably use someone else (or another ARB branch) to fit it. Either way, good news, glad to hear it.

Saving a few fuel dollars won't go amiss either...

            Hi deeptank,
My safari causes a wind whistle due to a bit of turbulance between the body and snorkel (not Turbo) but is no problem.

As someone already said, mine whistled until I move the bolt/clamp so that the bolt was on the back of the snorkel.

I think the wind rushing past made it whistle?? But it doesn't anymore

I think Spurio has found the problem with the whistle, I was going to post that it may be an installation problem as quite honestly I have no wind noise from the Safari snorkel.

I am extremely impressed with the performance of the engine since the snorkel fitment. The engine just wants to run free and easy and seems far more responsive.

I've had my Safari since brand new, occasionally hear a very slight whistle but it sounds more like the turbo than the snorkel. Not even worth worrying about, love it.

                    Hi Spurio,
It was the first thing I tried but to no avail but not a problem.

Righto... I'm now booked in for next Friday at ARB Brighton.

I will mention the whistling some have mentioned and ask them to try and install it so as to minimise it.

Is there anything else I should be looking out for?

Oh, and what's with these 'snorkel socks' I see occasionally? Maybe I'm missing something, but surely they would just limit air in-take...? And for what gain, if the snorkel is already fit for the job intended?

                      Questions, questions...

I had a slight wind noise when I first picked up my Prado but I also noticed poor fitting of the snorkel while giving the new baby a bath

The very front bolt was not installed, there was a gap and to top it off there was a hole drilled and obviously not sealed as rust was appearing

I ordered the snorkel with the Prado from the dealer so I complained to them although I knew ARB had installed. ARB phoned me...we organised a refit which took then 3 hours total :!: Possibly because of my complaints of the fit and worry of future rust but it is fit snug and very very tight against the body now.

I have not noticed anymore whistle as before but I am deaf in one hear and you know the other But if I could hear before it must have been bad

snorkel socks are only to prevent dust from getting in during off-roading. They restrict a bit of airflow, but its worth it out in the bush.

Tip: buy some cheap 'ladies knee highs', they even stop bugs getting into the snorkel on highway driving.

No I'm not a cross dresser

My snorkel did whistle a lot from about 50kmh up to road speed when I first piced it up. I took it back for them to sort. It ended up being a small gap between the snorkel head and the grill that screws on the front.
We put a small amount of stikaflex on between them and all is good now.

Thanks for that info mate, I will check mine out, as everything else checks out O.K. and the minor whistle/turbulance is definately comming from the snorkel head.

                                Hi Scojohara:
I removed the plastic grill ran a 2mm bead of All-Clear silicon along the the top section of the plastic grill there was a 2mm gap along the top section of the grill and body causing a resonant cavity above 40km's/hr.
I am amazed how noisy it was and I was ignoring it, now quiet, thanks Scojohara that little fix was great.
