What's the height of the top bar? Easiest way to measure is to clamp something across the top of the rack then measure from that to the ground.

I am running around 2.05m with a ARB lift. I know if I have the rack on I need to be careful in carparks that show a 2.1m minimum height as I have been caught.

The height of my roof rack is just over 2.00m on our GXL Prado with normal suspension and D694s. Should easily fit under anything with a minimum 2.05m height limit (I think most undercover carparks are around 2.1m minimum). Will measure further tonight to work out height with extra spare wheel up top.

EDIT: Okay, with the spare D694 up top, the overall height rises to just under 2.20m. I reckon you'd need a clearance height of 2.25m to be sure. 8)

          Re: ARB roof rack

I am just wondering if anyone can comment on the effectiveness or not of the ARB roof rack wind deflectors? Do they really make any substantial difference to the noise levels caused by the roof rack? Anyone able to provide comments from direct experience?

            ntpryce,

When I got my rack my local ARB reseller, told me not to bother wasting my money on the deflector. If you want to reduce the noise you could always put some ply up top to reduce the airflow through the bars.

I just turn the radio up.

            Cheers

Thanks Adrian. I am not worried about the noise and had an ARB rack before on another 4wd for 8 years and never worried about it. Just curious as to whether or not the deflectors actually made any difference. Cheers 8)

                Re: ARB roof rack

                Pryce,
The ARB wind deflectors do decrease wind noise a little bit compared to the empty rack, but I also found that it also increased fuel consumption slightly. The effectiveness of these wind deflectors depends a lot on what you are carrying on the rack. If you have some odd shaped bits a pieces on the rack then it might make more of a difference. For me the rack is either completely empty or completely full with a Michelles Sac Roof Sac,

so I haven't seen any real benefit of having the wind deflector attached.

                Hope that helps.

Sorry ~ I don't know. An email to ARB would give you the answer, if no-one else can help here.

Around 50kg...Hence the pulley blocks to get it off the roof.

Has anyone notices that now arb has an alluminium roof rack setup? One of the sales told me the weight of the whole setup won't be more than 30kg.
Can anyone confirm that? Very interested in getting one myself, just waiting for the green light from the financial controller :P

I haven't seen or heard of an ARB aluminium roof rack :?:

I still prefer the strength and durability of the steel deluxe racks; they've never let me down in the past. 8)

the link above will take you to the arb site about the rack.
I only come across the site since I was curious when I was told that the rack is only less than 30kg, where as lots of people here said it weighs no less than 50kg.

Why do you think the aluminium rack would not be stronger or at least equal in strengh to the steel ones? I thought ARB would make it at least the same sort of quality of the product they are replacing? Just curious :?
