  • Tuning Bluetooth in new GXL

    Hi all,

Does anyone have any idea on how I go about connecting my phone to the bluetooth on the audio system of the car. I have read through the manual and couldn't find anything on it. How does it work?

Deal may be the next stop.

    Thanks in advance

    Mick

    Mick,

There's a separate manual that explains the stereo functions including bluetooth. Mine was in with the main manual. If you don't have that then I can post the instructions from mine

      Hi Mick,

You should have received a small booklet for the audio unit. If you didn't, then see Toyota for one. There are many pages devoted to the bluetooth.

Here's the basic steps on how to work through the menu system:

When you press the green button (off-hook) it displays the "Phone" menu. Rotate the tuning knob (the left one) to select "Bluetooth". Press the tuning knob to select the "Bluetooth" sub-menu.

You need to register the phone, via the "Register Phone" menu. When you press the tuning knob, it will select the "Register Phone" sub-menu.

"Hands Free" is displayed for a few seconds, followed by a 4 digit code, e.g. "1234". You can change the code, but I have not had to do that. I'm sure you could figure it out by playing with the tuning knob to

Now follow the directions on your mobile phone to pair the two devices. You will need to enter the 4-digit code on your mobile phone to complete the connection.

You can register up to 6 bluetooth phones this way and manually select between them. Though, I have found that whilst the first phone connects flawlessly, when I attempt to select the 2nd phone in the menu, it doesn't always connect successfully. Even after deleting paired devices and restarting both etc etc. I even swapped the phones in position one and two, and sure enough, it seemed it only affected the 2nd phone, so I discounted it being a problem with the phone itself. It has been a pain, but that's not the basis of your question, so apologies for the digression.

      Cheers,
      LFaR.

Whilst it is nice having Bluetooth in the car, I have found that the quality of the bluetooth is really quite poor.

I have been told by a number of people using a number of phones that the audio quality is good but the level is very very soft, even when talking 5-10cm away from the unit.

        A bit disappointed.

Funny old thing eh! I reckon the bluetooth is brilliant. Easy to use, easy to hear and those I have spoken to have no problem with the calls from the car. I'm certainly no expert at this stuff but found it great. It sure beats the hell out of having headsets and leads everywhere, you can even leave your phone in your pocket or the console and it just works.
          Cheers

            Greg,

I use my bluetooth with a Nokia 6120 and it works very well. Volume is excellent and people on the other end of the phone say they can't even tell that I'm in the car. Could it be something to do with your phone settings?

By default, the first phone that you registered will automatically connect.

To connect to the phone that was registered 2nd, select the green button to enter the bluetooth menu, as you did before.

Once in the bluetooth menu, rotate the tuning knob until you reach the "Select Phone" menu. Press the tuning knob to select the submenu, then rotate the know to select the 2nd phone.

As I mentioned earlier, I sometimes have trouble selecting the 2nd phone. It just fails to connect. It used to work flawlessly, then one sunny day, it became troublesome.

BTW, these instructions are off the top of my head, so reality may be a little different .

My wife's phone has been connected to the car's Bluetooth for a few months now and is working fine. Bought myself a new phone (Samsung A412...same as wife's) and tried to register it to the bluetooth as well but it searches and doesn't find the car's bluetooth device. The search function on the phone works because it will connect with my wife's phone but won't find/connect to the car.
                        Any suggestions would be appreciated...thanks.
                        Gary.

Just got my GXL last Thursday and have no complaints with the bluetooth phone connectivity.

However, has anyone been able to copy the phonebook over - does it transfer the whole phonebook?

                            Metro,

I couldn't copy the phonebook from the phone. You have to manually enter names/numbers into the stereo and it will then bring up the name when you get a call.

                              Thanks Joe

Looks like you can only program 6 numbers - at least that will get the 'main' few!
