After our recent outback trips I found our air filter due to be renewed again after only 10k (30k by service schedule).
I'll put this down to the snorkel and very dusty conditions.
Something to keep in mind for those of you with a snorkel fitted is that the filter service intervals may need to be reduced.
With a filter costing an arm and a leg ($38.95 for a Ryco, $49 for Toyota)
I decided to go for a Uni Filter. I've used them in the past on various vehicles but the company was called Finer filter then)
I bought a "kit" from TJM which includes the filter frame, two complete filters, and a cleaning and re-oiling kit for $115. This is the same price as online from Finer Filter but you save the postage.

The part number above (TT290 215SCP) is for a 1KZ-TE. Check their online catalogue for other listings.
Don't confuse these with the gauze type performance filters (like K&N) which are not suitible for off road.
