  • Rear Luggage Net - Between 3rd row seats and tailgate???

Does anyone know of a solution to the problem of stuff falling out of the boot when you swing open the rear door? As I have 4 littlies, my 3rd row seats are permanently in use. Bottspace suffers dramatcially, as a result.

I was wondering whether there was a way of putting in some kind of a nylon cargo net that goes across the back behind the 3rd row seats and sits flush with the tailgate door and stops all of the luggage falling out of the back when you swing open the tailgate.

Just wondering whether anyone else has that problem and has come up with a workable solution?

i bought one from supercheap that has a hook on each corner, i'll have crack at hooking it on to something and let you know if it's any good!

I saw the same net at Supercheap and thought it would be ideal - the only thing was that I had no idea what to hook it onto.

I'll await your result with interest. Good luck.

      Thanks.

I had a bit of a play, apologies for the pictures for those with dialup, i made them as small as i could keeping detail.

        The Net

Connect the bottom two clips to the points on the floor and, if the back seats are up, it's pretty convenient to just hang them off the seat side

if the seats are down, you can use the head rests

or the section where the plastic turns into the roof lining

but i wouldn't recommend this as it stretches the plastic...

        comparison of both

and then just leave it on the floor when done

not very... from memory, around or under $20. but to be honest i'm just guessing, it was in amongst the bits i bought for the shelf so kind of a blur..

Thanks for the pics - looks great!

Is that the Toyota rubber floor mat? Because I don't remember mine flipping up so easily.

Might be worth cutting some permanent holes in the mat to make it look a bit neater and keep the carpet clean - especially as my kids are always trying very hard to find news ways of destroying everything...

yep - toyota one. there is a templated mark on the rubber mat to cut out for the luggage hooks.... i just lifted the corners for the pic though...

i'd suggest they wouldn't lift so easily if they had stuff piled up on them!

You're a genius McBain! I didn't even realise there were luggage hooks lurking under the mat!

Anyhow, got the Supercheap net this morning $23.99 and it works beautifully.

Thanks for the helpful info - I bet Supercheap will have a sudden run on luggage nets this weekend as a result.

The bottom hook points are deceptive, i can immagine they would be hard to spot on the dark carpet!

what did you end up going with for the top hook?

the supplied ones are a bit tight around the back seat headrest, i was thinking about putting something around them that would make it easier to latch on to but the initial thought was about as far as i got.

I actually loop it around the headrest support and clip it back onto itself. Seems a little more stable that way.

I am wondering if there is any way of affixing a flat metal plate under the trim around the top of the tailgate opening (where you show the alternative hooking point in your photos) and having a hook point attached to that little plate.

a plate with a hook sounds like a good idea.

now i'll have to talk the missus into more holes...

Great idea. I picked up one of these nets from Supercheap and escaped from the missus and kids for an evening.

I've used 2 small wire loops that are hooked around the plastic retaining clips that hold the plastic side trim in place.

I popped the bottom kick panel off and tucked the edge of the net underneath. The hooked bottom ends of the net are tucked under the bottom edge of the side panels.

It seems to hold everything in place and there are none of those annoying little fiddly bits dropping out onto the ground. When not needed the net just unhooks at the top and lays down flat on the floor.

                              Cheers
