  • Nudge Bars - Which one ?

    All,

I have just ordered a new D4D M6 in Silver (replacing the 06 White V6 M6) and am looking at fitting a nudge bar to mount the Lightforce 240's & Car kit Antenna on.

I can't afford to fit a bullbar on the new one at this stage so I was hoping that a few of you with nudge bars can post some pictures and some details of your bar.

I have had a look around on the WWW but would prefer some "real world' photos of some of the PP members cars.

    thanks !

    G'Day.
    goto www.tjm.com.au

They have a T16 nudge bar which looks quite good on the Prado. They have a downloadable brochure for all their Prado accessories which has a pic of it in there.

    Cheers.

Re: Nudge Bars - Which one ?

      Thanks mkh,

I prefer the "low loop" style they have released for the Hilux... it appears they only have the "high loop" style for the Prado.

Toyota only had a "high loop" factory bar as an option too.

I might give them a call tomorrow and see if they have a "low loop" style.

      Thanks for the link

This is the TJM nudge on our prado. Not the same size spots you're looking at putting on but it gives you an idea.

Re: Nudge Bars - Which one ?

i have been on to getting a nudge bar for the past 2-3 weeks.

the TJM one comes in a polished alloy, or a stainless steel one. the stanless is about $200 cheaper over the alloy one (local: Darwin) the TJM one finishes in the lower bumper grill, hence why it's a high loop one. it would look silly to have a low loop finishing in the same spot. i was keen on this one, but spotty mounting size and options were limited. only good thing is that you can see it over the bonnet, and most importantly, it doesn't reduce the front clearance or approach angle.

the other is ECB (east coast bull bars) which make a couple of styles, being the high loop and the standard low loop. these can be a polished finish or a powdercoated finish in black or silver. the high loop is a 63mm diameter tube, coming up to the same level as the TJM but finishing under the bumper. the low loop is a 76mm about grille height and also finishing under the bumper. the spotties mount inside the loop like he TJM one on the 63mm, which can limit the size of spotty, but on the 76mm the spotties mount on top which don't really restrict the diameter of light. The ECB ones are quite dear compared tot he TJM ones. About $650 odd for the 76mm.

do we go for the looks or the practicality?

i've gone for the ECB 76mm nudge bar, but i will be adding on two more spotlight tabs. i will post pics when i get it all done.

Re: Nudge Bars - Which one ?

              Thanks guys,

Do you find they "move/bounce" around as much as a full bullbar?

My current Toyota bullbar seems to move around a lot. This also seems to make the spotties shake around too...

I was hoping that a low line nudge would move around less??

Re: Nudge Bars - Which one ?

I haven't noticed much movement at all. Our last holiday was a 10'000k drive with the family and i didn't notice any movement while using the spots at night. The only thing that annoyed me was the sun reflecting off the top of the bar during the day, but a small strip of black tape was a quick and easy fix while on the road.

                  Thanks aremac,

I was hoping that they would be more solid.

I have found this picture online...

Looks like this type of bar will fit my 240's without a problem...

Has anyone had an AMA Bar (Alloy Motor Accessories - Brisbane?) on a vehicle before?

JR - be aware that the low mount bar in you last picture will reduce your approach angle significantly - the higher mount TJM bars dont.

Thanks Viper... hadn't thought about that !

I picked one up for $80 on flea-bay this week...(better than $500 new)

I am going to drop it in to the polishers this week and get it buffed up nice for the new rig

If its too low, I will get a higher mount one or another bullbar when funds allow it...

why don't you take the bar of your current truck? and relocate to the new one, a good polish and it will be like new. You should update your profile with your location.

Re: Nudge Bars - Which one ?

                          Hutch,

I thought about this option, but a good mate of mine is buying the white one off me, and he wants the bar

I have just dropped the nudge into the Polisher today... $80 and he said it will look new.

Will take some pictures once I get it back.

                          JR

UPDATE- Got the nudge bar back off the polishing mob and had a go at mounting it today.

I can get two holes lined up ok, but the second lot have no where to go. :?

Does anyone know if I need to drill 2 holes in the chassis to mount a nudge bar :?: :?:

If I do, I might take it somewhere to get it done professionally so that the mounting will be covered under some form of warranty. :? :?:

                            Nudge bar preferences

I am contemplating fitting a nudge bar as a mounting point for an aerial and hopefully some sort of protection for the radiator in the event of an alteration with Skippy. For the amount of running around Back of Bourke that I am likely to do, I cannot justify going the whole hog and buying a bull bar. Am I having myself on thinking it might protect the radiator, or is there a product that might afford some serious protection. I have noticed that some fit through the bumper and others that go underneath. I can imagine that the one that goes underneath would cop a hiding in the rough stuff as it would lessen the clearance beneath the front. Any thoughts on materials, brands, styles etc would be greatly appreciated. While I have driven a 4x4 for over 20 years now and done a number of back country trips, I have never had one with any sort of bar.

                              Re: Nudge bar preferences

I have a TJM T16 Alloy Nudge Bar and really its completely useless for protection. Its for mounting spotties on and looks more than anything else.

If you are after protection a proper bull-bar is what you need.

I think one of the 4WD mags did a review of them recently.
