  • Question about bull bar

    Hello friends across the world.

I take a course with you. I am buying a bull bar for my Prado and I am comparing models and brands.

I was looking at some pictures of the ARB and the Ironman, which are both available here in Brazil.

Looking at the details, I think the Ironman is not as perfect as the finishing ARB, look at the photos.
The Prado has the lights inclined, I think the ARB follows it, but the Ironman not.

    Ironman

    ARB

This is so, or just a sensation?

Always follow your forum, really spectacular, is a world reference when the theme is our beloved Prado.

    Big hug to all

    Jeison

my father-in-law has an ARB bar and although it has the large ugly gap, it's consistant like your pics. Can't say I've noticed Ironman ones being crooked like your pic but then I don't look for it.

        Re: Question about bull bar

The 'wings' of the ARB bar are angled to align with the lights.

This is more noticeable when a sand flag or UHF aerial is mounted to one of the outer mounting points as the top of the aerial tilts toward the middle of the vehicle. You might also notice it if you use the bar as a bar and put your beer there

From the photos, it sure _looks_ like the Ironman bar is straight as a ruler across the top...

Well, the prices here in Brazil:

              Ironman: US$ 2.890
              ARB: US$ 3.350

How much in Australia these bull bars?

Sorry, I couldn't help but crack up with the translation to English... you've made my day!

And although you may pay a lot for a bullbar in Brazil compared to Australia, Brazil has many other things working in its favour as a great country

                        Re: Question about bull bar

Jeisonk my Prado is the one with the ironman bar in the pictures. To be honest I never noticed that it was flat across the top while the ARB bar followed the contours of the lights. It is also nothing that bothers me now that I have seen it.

To me a colour matched ARB is by far the best looking bar but at 85+kg is too heavy in my opinion. And there have been a few PPers with coating problems. Of the rest of the bars available the only one that to me wasn't fugly was the Ironman bar and at 40kg I was happy with the weight. The other options left me distinctly cold. At the time Ironman were very competitive on price but that wasn't the main reason I went with Ironman.

There have been a few stories in here about poor quality fabrication from Ironman and that may be the case but my bar is fine. It is a 4wd afterall. Also as mentioned in another thread in this forum there is a gap left between the bar and the first bash plate (the factory bar and ECB ?? are the same too) which would allow sticks to stab the radiator but that is easily fixed with a piece of 3mm aluminium and an hour or so of work.

If you are doing heavy scrub bashing then go for the ARB bar or a steel TJM bar if you are ok with the weight. The cost is quite high for you but the difference isn't much so it comes down to what you like the look of and what you are going to use the bar for. If the Ironman and ARB were the same weight I would have bought the ARB bar, no questions.

It is true, really true, but we hold no more pay so expensive for everything here, everything is difficult to buy, everything is very expensive.
For you guys have an idea, the Prado here costs the equivalent of US$ 83,000

But I think there's no perfect country, that's the truth.

Michael, grateful for the post man, really valuable information, I didn't know of any difference in weight between ARB and Ironman.
The difference is equivalent to the weight of a winch

I'll buy the Ironman, it is enough for my needs, I think

There's a reason the ARB weighs more and you only find out why when you hit something. Let's hope that doesn't happen.
