  • Roof rail Crossbar help

    G'day all,

I am looking for the name of a particular cross bar for the roof rails on my VX.. I have seen a few Prado's getting around with this type of cross bar and think it looks trick.. i have never been able to stop or speak to these people as i always seem to see them going in the opposite direction

The bars look like they clip into the inside of the roof rails and sit at the same height as the rails with only a very small thin brace actually going around the rail.

I have gone through all the intro pages and looked at as many photos as i can to see if anyone on this site has the same with no luck.

HELP!! im keen to grab a pair

    Cheers

    Hi Jarrad,

I believe what you have seen is the Rola cross bars. I have them. They sit just about level, with just a small brace over the top.

    ROLA SPORTS Rail Bars
These roof racks are a pair of fully detachable crossbars for vehicles featuring factory fitted roof rails.

They use ROLA's ultra aerodynamic and quiet crossbar design and are compatible with the widest range of roof rack accessories.
[Pictures are a representation of the product style only - actual components used (eg, mounting hardware) may vary for individual vehicles.]
The end supports feature a low profile appearance with vehicle specific retaining hardware offering adjustability to suit varying load carrying requirements.

    Part Number RB085 (Factory Rails)
    Number of Crossbars 2
    Maximum Load 50 Kg
    RRP (incl. GST) $266.00 Aust.

Crowey, just note the carrying capacity is a lot lower at 50kg.

          Re: Roof rail Crossbar help

i used some prorack sports bars which are made in New Zealand ( yes they work ). I purchased them from supercrap auto however i think repco may sell them too. They are good for light stuff and not so good for heavy stuff. They clicked/bolted into the roof bars and didnt increase the height of the vehicle.

the low profile cross bars that attach to the standard roof rails, aare only rated at 50kg per set, BUT adding another set i.e. 4 bars total gives 100kg carrying capcity, but not value for money
this info is provided by the manufacturer with the product instlallation guide and a sticker on them stating it
if I still had the info from our subaru outback that used these same bars, I could have posted
            it sorry

Seems that Rhino also does some crossbars. They look like the Aerodynamic type as well.... pictured on a Prado to boot!!

Dunno about elsewhere in the country but here in the West, Supercheap have the rails Steve spoke about on sale (20% off I think it was), makes them about $150. They may be the low profile ones you are talking about.

As Steve said though, I think they only hold about 60kg.

                  Re: Roof rail Crossbar help

I think you mean like these Rola sports bars?

I spent ages trying to find them. I eventually got them from Repco for about $229 or something (with a 20% off voucher... or something.)

It is correct they have a lower rating than some other roof racks but i reckon they look mint and i have had kayaks and other crap on my roof no worries.

                    Re: Roof rail Crossbar help

Thanks for all your info guys
I decided to go for the Prorack Whisbar.. They are meant to be the quietest on the market and have a load rating of 75kg.. I got them from Autobarn for $285. The other good thing about them is the rubber is mounted in the bar, so what ever you put on the rack doesnt sit directly on the rubber.. and if you want to put eye bolts in you can push down the rubber and slide them along the bar to where you want them!

                    Cheers

Consider yourself lucky, the dealer is asking for the equivalent of 475.00 Australian Dollars here, utter madness!

Can anyone tell me if you can remove the roof rails and fit roof bars?
I have just bought a new GXL Prado and it has factory fitted rails. I kept the 3 bars from my previous Prado.
Sold the Prado. Now FJ Cruiser
