Team Simpson cross the desert with nothing but a set of MAXTRAX to get the non trailer towing vehicles unstuck. It took a fraction of time to pull out the MAXTRAX as opposed to other recovery gear.

Another vote for the Maxtrax. I joined a group of three others to accompany them over the Simpson on return from the GTG. I took a set of Maxtrax with me and used them twice. Much easier on the vehicle, no shock, no fuss. Just had to dig, put them under and drive out. All the other gear stayed in the rear. While the Prado is a very capable 4wd, especially in the sand, Maxtrax are good insurance.
We counted around 10 recoveries going from East to West across the Simpson. I think 2 of those were self-recoveries, the remaining were assiting others.
There was one in particular, where a traveller from the opposite direction failed to come up a dune; we were waiting for him on the other side. He had reversed into a sand-trap and when we saw his predicament, he would have been shoveling all day. The MAXTRAX, and reducing his tyre pressure, saw him recovered in a matter of moments with no real fuss or effort. I love these things.
I have plenty of pics, which I'll get around to posting soon.
Maxtrax are fantastic. We've had ours for going on two years. Used them four or five times and they work really well and are easy to use. They also save having strain on your chassis when towing or being towed out by other vehicles, and they are easier to get out and pack up that using a winch or snatch strap.
As much as I like the orange
Does anyone know of someone with the custom colours they speak of on the website???
I know of two peoeple with black MaxTrax's.
