  • Aftermarket Weathershields

There are a couple of different sellers of these kicking around, A search found one thread that had purchased off an online company however I have had no luck in getting a response from them, so after hunting around on ebay I have found 3 sellers that are regulars on there.

They all claim to have 'sold heaps' with positive feedback, so surely if they have sold that many, someone on here must know someone who lived down the road that had a mate that used to visit, whose bosses son used to have a set......................?

One seller has stipulated that their shields are not tinted, but are a solid black acrylic, which is not what I am after.

The other two types are tinted, one is very dark and the other is described as a dark blue and very clear and easy to see through.

Has anyone purchased any aftermarket weathershields off ebay and have any criticisms about them?

    Cheers, Rhet

I am in exactly the same boat as you mate...

I have heard that the after market type are only attached by double sided tape and will fly off if you cruise on the highways for long periods...

Would be keen to hear from anyone about this also!!

      Re: Aftermarket Weathershields

I bought a complete set of headlight covers, bonnet protector, side weather shields and rear dust shield from this guy: a1boxesandparts. He has an ad on Ebay. Phone (09) 93174459. Located in Myaree (Perth) behind Titan Ford off Leach Hwy.

He sells a wide variety of discount parts for Toyota including both genuine and non-genuine.

The headlight protectors and weathershields are Aunger. The shields have both tape and metal clips. The shields on my 90 series have been on for nearly 11 years with no problems. The ones on my 120 have been on for 8 months and no problems.

The front protector and rear dust shield are genuine Toyota. The bonnet protector is a dark brown tinted piece with PRADO in white letters. Looks really good against my Dune paintwork. You can also order a clear version. I had one on my EB Falcon years ago which I painted with a can of spray paint to match the body. I sprayed the underneath of the guard and it looked a treat.

The rear guard is a dark smokey charcoal piece with both metal clips and tape. I have removed one metal clip from the guard at the top left corner of the door where it has been rubbing against the paint near the roof.

I bought the lot for my 120 and got a reasonable discount as opposed to shopping at Mr Toyota. You could also try Supercheap as they will get anything in, even if not ordinarily stocked (if you ask nicely).

        Re: Aftermarket Weathershields

i have the dark tinted weather shields.
have had for over 12mths and no signs of any problems (bought off Ebay).
they have plenty the bush pin stripping on them, so they don't have any easy time on our prado.
when they were delivered, they sent me 5. so i have a spare DSF sheild, just in case we have a hard day out

          Gday Rhet,

I have also seen weather shields for Prado on ebay which are the slimline type.

If these are the type you are interested in i can tell you i purchased some about 18 months ago.
They were coloured dark plastic not externally tinted, they are stick on but i can tell you they stick like sh*t to a blanket.

The problem is mine are now faded, lost the sheen completely and have hairline cracks all through them, they look like crap now.
I asked the seller a question on ebay about durability and would they deteriorate in Ozy sun, as they are from overseas.
He told me there is no guarantee for this and would not commit to a positive answer.

          Hope this helps.

            Re: Aftermarket Weathershields

got the w/sheilds black for all side doors and front black , off that ebay seller

critisism : the 3M tape on one doesn't stick so good, (will fix myself) other than that ,
the D/S front, being black, makes the blind spot slightly worse, ( depends on your driving style ,could be a problem, tho I'm used to my truck, havent looked at the blind spot (if any) with a snorkel, to see if its a issue) my missus is adapting her driving style to suit the new prado, so it was all new to her, i put 'em on straight away , so she is getting used to it , with the blind spot from the shade anyway..... i'm happy with the look and price was good

            cheers butane

                    Re: Aftermarket Weathershields

please consider tho , since highlighting the obvious blind spot, my  conscense  has me thinking of going to factory ones, just hope they do the back side doors, I dont want to sacrifice the black, but i'd shoot myself if the missus had a stack because of the larger blind spot ... so think about the pro's and con's mate..' newgenerationimports' is the ebay seller, or hold off a week or so , and you can have mine for a song, if i change em',

Re: Aftermarket Weathershields" GIVE 'EM A MISS"

yep , there off, (tw0 fronts) had a yak to the missus , her opinion is the same :!: the blind spot they create isnt worth the look, shame there not tinted as advertised... we will get some more that can be see thro " tinted" lesson learned ops: so my advice is don't buy em, put some more dollars in and get the see thro type .. but if ya keen, mine are cheap!

                            Re: Aftermarket Weathershields

I initially bought a set from 'newgenerationimports' as well. After specifically asking whether they were tinted/see through or black and no clear vision, I was told that they were tinted and could been easily seen through.

so I was pretty annoyed when they turned up near on black. yes, you could see through them, if you held your eye up to them and looked into the light. I also trail fitted one and the joggle where it lips over the mirror fairing was not accurate. It was out by about half and inch, so i requested a full refund, which I received.

The next set I purchased from 'oznest88' These are tinted dark but are quite easy to see through. The first set turned up cracked, so I sent the guy some photos of them and he sent me another set. They feel a bit flimsy but fit reasonably well. I have had them fitted for about a month and for what they are, they are ok.
