Roof tent or rv tent

We are planning a trip to Europe in the summer and plan to camp, no one up here seems to have much experience of roof tents or RV tents ,but I know you guys down under will be fully up to speed.
There will be 2 adults and two children under 4, what would you guys reccomend.
I am quite keen on a roof tent for the ease of use and we can source hannibal tents and maggiolina tents here in the UK.
Someone else has told me that an OZtent may be a much better option just as quick to put up and more room, many thanks for any help you can give

Im not a fan of roof tops, once you set up then youre vehicle cant be used without breaking camp, so for me to go exploring is a bit more difficult
Equally, for someone to go wee's in the middle of the night will disrupt others and could be downright dangerous

We lived in an oztent for about 5 weeks touring the Northern Territory and loved it

They are quick simple and clean...exceedingly warm and can accomodate a lot of bodies, we found the RV4 for two of us was a mile of room
I cant reccomend them highly enough, good quality, outstanding after sales service and just a damn good product

One word of warning, if you get one, consider a roof pod or at least more support than two roof rails, they are aluminium framed and pack up to 2 metres long, so without good support you could easily bend the frame in transport

I read somewhere that 100kg is the limit load for the roof mounts, I alone weigh more than that.....

I've often wondered how 2 full-sized adults could sleep on the roof when the load limit is 100Kg.

Is the load limit calculated for a moving vehicle (which would add to the weight factor considerably)?

I could just about guarantee the limit is for a moving vehicle only, if you think about the physics of it, the weight required to do damage would be fairly high - compared to the weight required to upset the car given the distance from the car's CG axis.

Just my thoughts FWTW.
