  • Bullbar Selection

    Hi

I am looking for a bullbar when I pickup my car in about 3 weeks. I have looked at the ARB ones and the Toyota Sovereign bar. Is the Toyota one really waste of time and money? I mean in terms of built and strong wise. Also can you fit a warne winge to it? I show them both to my wife she thinks the ARB one is too hardcore.

Is the ARB ones that much better than the Toyota one? Please englight me. What are the advantages of the ARB or Toyota one?

    Thanks

    Alan

    Hi

Thanks for your reply. One thing I worried about the ARB one is the fact that it is quite heavy compare to the Toyota one. My car is the Grande model which probably means I cannot change the suspension on it. Would that bar be too heavy for the car with double the weight on it compare to the Toyota one?

    Thanks

I'm a bit bias but i would prefer the arb bar, very strong, build qualilty is exellent, easier to keep clean, easy to mount spotlights, radiator protection, colour coded to vehicle. easy winch mounting, high lift jack points, also should have recovery points and iv'e hit big roo's at 100kph&
and they have stood up very well on other models. I would hate to see an alloy bar hit a roo at 100kph it would bend back and hit your fenders and bonnet.
Alloy is lighter but and i have read that arb bar with sag the front slightly about 15mm i think.
One last thing the arb is cheaper with the money left over you can buy snice pair of spotties.
      Cheers Phil.

hmmm... I thought alloy was weaker too.....

One more question. I have look at the Toyota one, where the spotlight should be mounted there is a sorta indent on the bull bar. However I do not see any holes drilled for it. Does that mean I just have to drill the mounting hole myself?

        Thanks

ARB weight about 20kg more vs Yota bar. IMHO Yota bar just for looks as
if you hit anything you will have to change a whole bar...
ARB bar got better approach angle. Yota bar got exposed radiator...

If you fit ARB bar, you have to consider upgraded springs/shocks as car
will bounce more because of the soft shocks and heavy bar on front....

If you can't afford ARB bar, I would go for Ironman bar - almost the same
as arb at almost half the price.

The grande got Airbags at the rear AFAIK. Front is the same as on GXL/VX???

I have a grande with ARB winch bar front end dropped approx 15mm i posted something before with measurements.
Go the ARB bar it still drives and handles like standard.
Yes you can upgrade suspension, which i will look at later but not needed staight away. Different story if you put the winch in the bar straight away.

Yes please. Photo r always cool. The problem i have is although the front of the grande's suspension can be replaced. I will lose the damper adjustment which is something I don't want. I think I will fit a winge to mine as I most likely would be venture out by myself. None of my friends have 4WD, so they need to be coverted....lol
                  Thanks

I have the ARB deluxe winch bar and have left the suspension stock at the moment. I did not notice any difference with bar fitted regarding the handling or steering. I will eventually upgrade the suspension before fitting a winch and dual batteries. The ARB bar can have a winch bolted directly to the bar as opposed to the Toyota and TJM bars which use a cradle setup.

I don't think the damper setting is that good of a reason to keep stock suspension. All the guys with aftermarket suspension say that the vehicle handles twice as good than when it was stock.
Myself i don't think feel a huge difference between the settings.

ARB bar gives pretty good underbody and frontal protection
