  • default security code

    All,
I have recently purchased a 2004 prado grande which has the sat nav/audio/reverse camera in the centre dash. I am working out the functions and have come across the security feature. Does anyone know what this does? It requires a (what I think is) a three digit security code. The garage could not provide me with this so am hoping it is still the default code. So my questions are :- :?:
    1. What does the security feature do?
    2. What would the default code be?
    3. How do I find out the code if the dealer couldnt help me?
Has anyone else had the same problem?
    Regards
    Richard

    Re: default security code

I've been told by a dealer that sometimes it's the last three numbers of your vin number. It could also be 000, 111 or similar and on mine which is an 06 gxl you have I think 8 try's to get it right before it costs you money for Toyota to unlock it for you. Hope this helps.

      Re: default security code

If you tried and failed, take the stereo out and bring it to Toyota. If you are lucky, they won't charge you for it. That was what happened to me. I had a PIN on my stereo and was upgrading it, so sold off the old one on ebay. On the day before posting it, I decided to check if the PIN was there and it was but I had forgotten it. Took it to Toyota and they got in the car all ready to pull the unit out but saw that it was already out. They pulled their yellow lunch box out, connected the cables to the stereo and removed the PIN. I asked how much and they said because it was already out of the console, its a freebie. Its a 10 second job.

        1. What does the security feature do? once power is removed from the unit, the security is activated to deter theft. that is all
        2. What would the default code be? it could be anything. from 000 to 999
        3. How do I find out the code if the dealer couldnt help me? it is not possible to find it out unless you have it
Has anyone else had the same problem? plenty have. you just have to pay your local dealer a visit with your radio and they might not charge you for them to connect to their yellow box and press reset

          Re: default security code

Thanks guys for all your advice.

If all the feature does is require a code to be input after the power is cut off, I may just leave it alone until I need to, rather than mess about with it now while its working

          Cheers

            Re: default security code

If the power is cut, nothing will work when power is applied until you enter the pin.

If it's working at the moment then you should be able to try and change the pin as many times as you like. It will not let you change the pin unless you have the correct old pin but it should not lock you out for trying too many times, it would just stop the new pin from being entered. Might be a good time to find out what the old pin is before you only have 10 attempts if you disconnect the power later.

I just picked up my "new" 120 three days ago and the dealer said it was the last 3 numbers of the vin, so maybe try that first if you need to, cheers mick

Yep, last 3 numbers of the vin worked for me after i did the power window trick as well. Just had my starter motor reconditioned with an inline voltage booster put in. The contacts were shot at 138,000kms. Denso unit OEM is under engineered.
