  • CAN YOU FIT 3 LIGHTFORCE 240 HID's ON A ARB DELUXE

Hit a roo with my factory bar after deciding between the TJM outback bar or ARB deluxe I have gone with the arb bar, could anybody tell me if you can fit three light force HID across the front as I have two 35w HID's that I won't to use for spreaders and I would like to chuck a 50w 240 in the middle ?

    Thanks !

Dunno if they fit but technically it's unroadworthy

As well as being unroadworthy, the more lights you have blocking airflow to the radiator the more likely you are to overtax the cooling system. Toyota don't build in much margin. When I bought a OEM mesh grill guard, the spare parts guy warned me not to do serious offroading with it installed as the cooling system would be strained.

Not having a go at you personally hulbyw, as I realise you are just passing on info someone told you, but I think MR Toyota Spareparts guy should just stick to his day job.

You only have to look at some of the gear people have of their rigs and look to find that even those who drive their trucks hard, I don't think I have read anyone who has reported overheating issues - so I don't think some measley bug guard is going to do much.

Having said that though, I stand to be corrected on this.

Re: CAN YOU FIT 3 LIGHTFORCE 240 HID's ON A ARB DELUXE

Since installing two IFP lights on my ARB bar I have noticed that now I get a coolant temperaure increase of up to 5 degrees C when towing up long hills where I didn't used to see this before the installation of the lights.
I know this from monitoring the temperature via Scangauge - the standard Toyota temperature gauge are over dampened so the change in temp doesn't even register on the gauge. But the lights on the bullbar have definately had an effect on the cooling system.

.....ARB Bar, Winch, 2 X IPF's and an OEM Bug screen........ and the temp has not moved one degree..... (and I am now running a Engine Guardian Temp monitor, so I do watch these things)

I can say without a doubt you will not have airflow/heat problems with the spotties mounted plus the factory bug screen> I do a lot of desert driving in the pilbara/red centre and never have had the Temp gauge move from where it normally sits........

I have 2 x XGT converted to HID on my ARB bar. 3 would fit across but if the HID's have the same mounting as the XGT (which I think by memory they do) you will need to shave a smidge off the base to allow you to get a higher enough angle to place the spot down the road. They also stick out past the bullbar by 25mm. I have smashed quite a few roo's with this bar and the 2 previous Toyota alloy ones (2 alloy bars needed replacing) and I haven't had a damaged spottie yet!

OK regardless of the legalities or the cooling issues the question was, can you fit 3 lightforce 240's on a soverign bar. The answer is yes you can, i know this cause i just saw one with the three 240's on the soverign bar in Berri. Sorry didnt have a camera, car was parked and i drove past so i cant tell you anymore about how it was done, but it certainly was done! It certainly makes a statement.

                  Cheers Andrew

Re: CAN YOU FIT 3 LIGHTFORCE 240 HID's ON A ARB DELUXE

Having just recieved a PM from another member who thinks he knows the rig i spotted with the three 240's on the front, i realized i buggered up with my reply ops: Having read this thread a few days befor the spot i was thinking that they were to be fitted to the soverign bar, when in fact that was being replaced with an ARB deluxe and this was the bar in question. So i guess the answer is im not sure. I however currently have a soverign bar on my prado, and am in the possesion of an ARB deluxe bar that i was planning to fit. (the ARB bar is the biggest piece of shit i have ever seen in my life, hopefully ARB will have it replaced with a decent one later this week though) Anyway, the distance between the uprights on the ARB bar is 40mm narrower than the original soverign bar 760mm compared to 800mm and the soverign uprights angle outwards from the base as well, so fitting 3 240's to the ARB deluxe bar would be harder than on the soverign.

                      Cheers Andrew

Re: CAN YOU FIT 3 LIGHTFORCE 240 HID's ON A ARB DELUXE

You would also need to drill two new mounting points as the position for the left and right lights as per standard would mean that three lights would foul with each other. The existing mounting points are about 230mm apart from centre (approximate) and I believe the LF240s are 247mm in diameter. If the 240s are not good then possible look at the Genesis as this is smaller and may fit better and provide better air flow and may negate the need to drill additional mounting points.

Just to help you compare sizing

                        Lightforce Genesis:

                        Lightforce 170 Striker:

                        Lightforce 140 Lance:

I've also included the IPF 900 series whihc sits in between the Genesis and Striker in size

Speaking with the Mrs about running three spotties on the front she mentioned that this could be a Chrissy present for me.... So fingers crossed that in about two months time, I will have a definitive answer and some pics of three LightForce 240 Blitz's mounted to the front of my ARB Deluxe Bar

Hi AJ, as suggested above in this thread it is actually illegal in South Oz to have an uneven number of lights. I had this discussion in another thread a while ago, have a look here viewtopic.php?f=16&t=354

The exception is you can have a "work light "operated by a switch outside the vehicle, with some clever wiring and a two way switch in the cab and another switch under the bonnet it could be made to look legal, just dont get caught with all three on while driving down the road, or like somebody else you know just take a chance and see what happens eh!

Wouldn't mind three myself but still wieghing up whether it is worth the effort, also i have gone for IPF 900's and you can only but them in pairs

                            Cheers Andrew
