Scanguage2 failure - 2years

Hi all.
Recently my scanguage2 started having issues with the LED readout.
The left side of the scanguage2 started with some missing LED parts on the readout. It seems it extended to both rows but only 1/2 way across. Other symptoms were on occassions, the right guages would fluctuate, or rotate through as if you kept pressing the buttons. I confirmed the buttons were not depressed. 2 weeks on from the initial faults showing, the scanguage is missing most LED parts on the left side of the screen so now it is impossible to r theead.

I removed the scanguage completely and reinsterted in - same faults
Changed the connection from the rear socket to the right side socket - same faults
I removed it and left it out for 24 hours - same fault
I opened it up and removed the ribbon cable and reinserted it - same fault

Any suggestions as to the cause. I think its about to go in the bin as I dont believe that it is repairable because when LEDs normally do this, they are stuffed. I am hopeful it may be an easy fix, but I dont think it will be.

What are the alternatives to the Scanguage2. I really like the concept of the trip computer showing fuel usage etc.

I'm waiting on my comptuer guru guy to finish a program that will give fuel usage, fault codes, snsor readings, temps ect. currently he has hasit running via bluetooth from the obd II to a hand held device running windows ce. He is trying to see if we can get the TP09x1 to read it via the blue tooth. hopefully he can get it to do it! I have it pro scan running of my lap topnow, so its basically a compressed version of that.

I've not opened a scanguage, but from one tinkerer to another, could you replace the LCD panel with a spare part?

Hi LFaR. I thought about replacing the LCD panel, but as it is integrated with a ribbon cable and it is all setup for the Scan Guage 2, I would be hard pressed to find a cheap LCD panel to suite it.
But I have been thinking, if anyone local to Nth Brisbane who has a SG2, maybe I can borrow yours to see if my LCD works on mine and vise versa. I am an electronics dood, so its an easy plug n play thing for me to try. Any willing participants?

without another LCD panel to try, I am leaning towards a faulty connection or failed component on the LCD board. I dont really want to spend another heap of dollars on replacing the unit, without first attempting to see if the LCD is faulty first.
Anyway, time will tell.

I hope the scangauge is as good as the P.P. users say. I just ordered one as my Xmas present to myself.Any advise on instalation in a 2008 D4D would be appreciated.
