Winch advice

I've used my 12000lb winch a few times now and it has worked flawlessly each time. It didn't even get all that hot winching with the camper trailer in tow. The main reason I went for the 12000lb winch was for winching out with camper (and later caravan) in tow and the 2speed function. The second speed isn't for winching only for quick powered wind in & out.

With both winches using the same drive ratio but the 12000lb having a more powerful motor (6.6hp vs 5.5hp) I'd probably go the 12000lb for piece of mind. Just make sure all your wiring is in good nick cause on a 12000lb first layer pull it will draw about 450 amps vs 370 for the 10000lb.

Thanks for the info, I think you are spot on about going with the slightly larger model.

Sure will when I get back into town. I had some issues with my wiring to start with but that was definately my local toyota's doing. Took it to Obrians (a specailist 4x4 service place in Gero) and they fixed it in about 30 minutes. Looks great now and isolated to boot.
