  • Radiator protector plate

I wonder if anyone on this forum has fitted a guard between their bull bar and the sump protector as seen here: http://www.lcool.org/technical/120_seri ... plate.html

I can see this as a weak point and I'm considering doing it, I'd love to hear from and see photos of other ppls set up.

    Cheers,

    Drew.

    Drew,

Yes, I have that plate on my 120. I fitted it because I found the radiator and air con got a hammering on Fraser Island and just in case some hidden root or stick decided the radiator was a good place to lodge itself.

I got the plate from Darren? on the LCOOL link and it came with the recesses for the factory underbody bolts/plate already cut out. Needed a little modification to the depth of the recesses to fit and holes drilled in the front bar to mount. I have the factory Sovereign winch bar. If you have some time on your hands and the right gear you could make one up yourself to fit.

I've since had mine raised (OME) so hopefully it won't be an issue but I'm leaving it on. I haven't got photos but can put some together and send em through over the weekend.

      Thanks for the reply Matt,

Did you get your plate from Darren? I'll fire off an email to him.

BTW, do you get dizzy from rolling your eyes so much?

      :-) ;-)

      Cheers,

      Drew.

        Radiator Protector

Had one made for mine when in the west, made out of 3mm alloy checker plate. Didnt like the gap with kangaroos around.

          radiator bash plate

Anyone, I repeat anyone with a Sovereign bar would be mad not to fit a radiator bash plate. The radiator is left so rediculously exposed with this bar fitted. I learnt the hard way. After noticing it's vulnerability I put it on the "to do" list rather than the the "do it right now" list. Driving across a paddock a stick found the spot directly under the AC condenser
where the radiator drops down about 3cm. further. Very lucky not to cook it. And very lucky we weren't out bush. :!: :!: :!:

Yeah it sure is exposed. I've since made and fitted one to my vehicle.

It's crazy that Toyota Australia have designed the bar that way. As far as I know the Sovereign bar is Australian designed. Certainly isn't going to win any design awards with that gaping hole!

              Hi Drew

Have you had any problems with restricting the air flow to the radiator in exteme hot weather, by fitting the protector plate ?

Drew is not on here much.
alot of us run these still, with no issues.
some have drilled/hole sawed large holes to allow more air flow.
i have run mine for over 2 years. not change to temp if towing in summer, to winter.
depends on the condition of your cooling system.

                      Re: Radiator protector plate

I have the plate added for the last 2 years.

Def no problems with temp etc - so I saw no need to make air holes etc.
