  • Bubbles in window tint

Well, I finally do have one complaint about my 09 GXL - the window tint has bubbles. Dealer told me it would take a couple of weeks for the tint to dry out properly and this would remove the bubbles. However, here we are 11 weeks after delivery and a month and a half of temperatures around 30 degrees or more and bubbles are still there. Funnily enough they are all mainly on the rear passenger doors.

I look at the tint job on my 98 GXL and it's still almost as good as the day it was done.

The local dealer is whinging because I bought my car from a dealer in Perth and he now has to fix their problems.

Bottom line if it was fitted by Toyota and is being covered under thier warranty, it should be able to be done anywhere.

Or tell the Perth Dealer to send someone over to fix it.

Yell harder bushbasher - maybe then they'll listen. Shouldn't be bubbles in the tint. Either they should fix or replace.

Had the same problem some years ago.
Dealer (BMW) had out-sourced the tinting, so I had to take the car to the tinters, or wait till next service and dealer would take it over.
Took it myself, and fixed in about 90 minutes under tint warranty (bubbled film removed from affected rear window, and replaced).
Beware, however, as removing film can be a problem if its been applied over the defrost and / or antenna elements, which may come off with the film.

FWIW, I had the same issue and mentioned it at my 1000k free service (or was it 5000k - I can't remember for sure). They said I will need to take it to the third-party who applied it. Some weeks later, I finally organised myself to have it checked, and blow-me-down, I couldn't find any bubbles to complain about.

I don't know what size bubbles you have (what a funny thing to say, hey ). When I could see them in my tint, the bubbles were extremely tiny... visible by close inspection only. I was concerned that they would become worse overtime, but it seems they have disappeared, as best I can tell. Though, your topic makes me think I had better check it again soon.

              Re: Bubbles in window tint

Newtown Toyota want me to bring it to them for repair/replacement. Goldfields Toyota don't want to touch it - they send their work out to Tintacar whereas Newtown do the job in-house. Apparently there may be an "issue" matching the tint properly. The service guy says to "Just bring it in." I said "No worries mate, I'm just around the corner 600km away in Kalgoorlie." Service manager apologises and says the guy "is new and is a stupid bloody kiwi."

I have to go down for an MRI scan anyway so they can fix the car while I'm down.

The bubbles are very noticeable when you view from the inside and right rear passenger side actually has started to lift in the top corner.

The idea that you need to do anything other than drop the car off at the dealers is complete bollocks. You bought the finished product from Toyota, not someone else. Toyota's problem. Toyota fixes it. Not you. I suppose with window tinting, if you did have it repaired at another dealer it may well end up looking like crapola due to mismatched tints. It's like getting "outback red" paint from Dulux and Taubmans. They're similar but not the same. Even though it's a pain, it'd probably be better to live with it until you can get it back to the original dealer. That's if you can get it back within the warranty period.

                  Problem fixed.

All new tint and all new warranty. The job is 1000% better finish than the original job. Looks like a technician did the instal and not a junior trainee with zero experience.

They also replaced my 3000 Turbo Diesel sticker which was wrinkled.

Attention to detail, that's what's missing these days.
