  • Rear bumper removal

    Hello all,

Sorry if this is a daft question, but I looked in the search but didn't find.

I want to replace my rear bumper,

A 'how to' would be nice.

      Re: Rear bumper removal

I managed to do it quite easily and far quicker by slamming it against a big rock as I was coming out of a creek
Just knocked it back in and put zip ties on it...and I still haven't got new bolts on.

Haven't considered a steel rear bar? That's what I plan on once mine eventually gets knocked around too much.

        Whats there to understand.

        1. Take bumper off.
        2. Put bumper on,

I will try to make it more simple.

          Re: Rear bumper removal

It's been quite a while since I've done it however from memory it's quite easy... there a number of screws under the bar around the edge and a couple on each inner side attaching the bar to the flares (these could be clips, can't remember) - you should find these easily. Undo the trims above the bar - everything is reasonably obvious and there are two fasteners on each side of the bar at the top (where the inner rolls up verticle, near the rear reflectors). You may need to undo the rear door retainer thingy - the bit that holds the door open. Then simply pull back and she unclips at the sides. There are little clips/lips on each side which push into the flares - these will pop out and push in etc. Be carefull to ensure you unplug anything electrical before you pull the bar cover off such as reversing sensors.

So your 'question' is that you are after specific instructions on how to take off your exisiting bumper bar. Not how to replace your exisiting bumper bar, or advice on aftermarket alternatives. if you're vague your posts than people can interpret your 'question' in different ways.

              .

              .
I just want to take off my existing rear bumper, European LC4, with turn and tail in the bumper,

then fit a LC5 bumper which does not have the turn and tail in the rear bumper.

I have now got the turn and tail working in the main rear light clusters.

I am swapping the bumper because I am putting this on.

              .
but as you see, it would obstruct the lights in the current bumper, hence the swap out.

              Thanks for the help

                  Grave dig.

My Prado is finally getting the rear bumper replaced and HR towbar fitted next week. Do I need to remove my drawers to enable the panel beater to remove the bumper?
