  • 5 speed manual dificult changing gears

I began having issues about 2 months ago, whilst slowing down it was dificult to change from 3rd to 2nd gear and was having to stop using just brakes then select 1st (Sometimes would take a couple of pressing of the clutch). I took it to the mecahnic and he replaced the gearbox oil and said he took it for a drive and seems normal......

Since then I have driven about 5000k's (Unfortunatly all on tar) and the problem is getting much worse. It is now dificult to change up gears when its cold and still hard to change back.

Im abit lost as to where to start, whether it's a clutch issue or if the gearbox is stuffed.

I have done a search but apolagise if i missed this topic elsewhere.

    Thanks!

        Hi Guys,

Generally hard shifting in a reasonably newish vehicle relates to a clutch issue, ie
not disengaging properly. This can sometimes be confirmed by a crunch when trying to
        shift into reverse.

        Cheers

Your description matches the same symptoms on my old Subaru Outback until one day it just wouldn't get into gear. After a bit of investigation into the clutch master/slave cylinder, it turned out to be a bent clutch fork. Ended up being a costly exercise as in the end, looking at the clutch, replaced that at the same time it was all apart. That car had done almost 200k at the time it happened.

          Good luck
