Hey folks. I own a 2006 V6 prado (5 speed tranny) my question is this. How do you refill or check the auto tranmission fluid on this car. I might be dumb but I cant find a dipstick anywhere on this tranny. I have checked the service manual and I cant even find where it calls for a Tranny fluid change. Any help would be appreciated.

your vehicle uses WS (world spec) transmission fluid.
to check the fluid, you really need to put oil in and check
the "check" drain port (plug removed) as it works like an overflow system.
the filler is a 24mm bolt (with WS on it) above the drain pan on the drivers side (bastard to get to).
fill oil here and it overflows out the check port.
it is critical that the oil levels remain correct. not to low, not overfilled.
funny stuff will happen to your auto otherwise.
shift problems, noises etc.
make sure you get/use WS oil and not type IV or dextron

Thanx mate. I ended up ringing Toyota Dealer and they told me to change the oil it had to go into a dealer as they check it out against a computer to see if anything is wrong. although they also told me there are no adjustments inside the gearbox (band adjustment etc). Might just be as easy to book it in with them for a service as I do a fair bit of towing (boat). anyway at least I know what to look for in future so the info you gave me will help heaps.
