what happens when you brake? does the noise go away? try light braking and heavy braking above 90kmhr

When you brake no noise, any kind of braking there is no problem, problem only when accelerating over 90klms soon as you back of the throttle vehicle just cruising noise not there put foot down on throttle noise is back.
toyota just said they cant fix the problem because they dont know what it is

What you have described is classic diff noise, when you back off or cruise with low thottle application, the pinion gear to crown wheel meshing changes,that is the teeth "unload" and/or the crown wheel gear teeth "drive" the pinion gear teeth. When you accelerate the pinion gear then meshs hard against the other side of the crown wheel gear teeth.
The change in gear tooth contact from side to side of the gear teeth is why the noise appears and disappears. I would be asking for a very detailed explanation of how they have checked your diffs. Perhaps the "check" was seeing if the diff has oil !!
To my mind you have a diff gear set on the way out, to properly check the diff gears need to be visually examined although a test drive by a competent mechanic would have identified the issue as a diff noise.

is it raised? When my first Prado was lifted 60mm anything above 95km i had noise and vibe through the front/ and steering.The extra height caused the cv's to vibe under load. When we fitted the Bilstein shocks to the front and lowered it back to 40mm lift the noise and vibe went away.
On my second 120 series went to only 40mm lift and no vibes.08 VX D4D, Lift, Safari Snorkle, Trailblazer Fridge, Custom Storeage System, BFG, ARB Safari Bar, Wife, Kids, Codan NGT HF Radio, Debt.

dont have a issue with the 40mm lift here diff no whine,, agree if it whines at speed start the the diff centre it would be the rear, but find yourself a dirt road lock it up in 4wd and see if the sound is still there.. just in case being a awd there might be something in the drive f or rear that is lacking some t.l.c , just food for thought , hope you get rid of the whine.... cheers butane[u][i][b][color=#0000FF] ..lets take her out for a spin... butane[/color][/b][/i][/u]
