You may need to drive forward a few meters for the splines on the diff lock mechanism to align.

Auto or manual? On the autos there is a button to engage.

I believe its only Autos with traction control that have a push button centre diff lock. All other 120's have a stick shift CDL.

          Yeah ok it's a 2007 V6 auto GXL.
Iv only had the car a few weeks. When I first got the car the light was not coming on but then one day in bush I put it into LL drove a bit and then it came on then every time after that it was coming on but the last few day it has not been come on. I read the book and it said if the light does not come on just drive and reverse a bit and it will come on but I drove around for hours today both forward and backwards in HL & LL but still no light coming on. Is there a major problem or am I doing any damage by drive with the light not on

            Taken from this thread, http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...-light-on-dash

Its is from the 90 series Forum but is still applicable to your 120.

You should be able freely spin the wheel that has been jacked up. Shift the transfer lever into HL. Try to rotate the front wheel. It may turn for a few degrees and then lock and won't turn at all. If that happens the centre diff lock is engaged completely, so check the instrument panel to see if the CDL light is on.

Their is a cable ? Sensor thing that comes out of the gearbox that can get crap in it, stops the light from working. Mines been cleaned a couple of times to fix. Their is a thread in the 120 section.

This problem has been detailed on another thread.
The sensor needs to be replaced, I think you need a 26mm ring spanner to remove/replace.
