  • V6 6 Speed replacement clutch

My clutch is on the way out on my 2004 6 speed . the car drives well without a heavy load on the back. everytime on a step incline, with the boat on the back- i can smell clutch plate. i have been quoted $1700 for a new clutch - which is not heavy duty.
Does anyone now of a heavy duty clutch available for the 6 speed box? - im paying a shight load to get this repaired and want to get it right
What are my options - even thinking of getting rid of her , but have forked out to much for all the stuff i have put on he.

Was that quote from a dealer?

You might be able to import a clutch from the US, and get it fitted locally. Have a look at this:

    http://www.urdusa.com/More-Products-...c1pa3u0fciusc6

They show a number of performance clutches for the 1GR motor, plus throwout bearing repair kits to fix the judder and bearing squeal.

    Maybe worth a look.

Just a note about HD clutches? Have you driven with one before?

I've driven a couple of vehicles with HD and extra HD clutches and they seemed a bit shit for use all the time.

I was quoted for a Daikin clutch for the 1kd diesel with 6 speed box for $599.00 and I notice they do yours for that price, but in another brand.
They post to Sydney from Melbourne for about $30.00.

            Couple of things.

Have you checked the free play?

            Is it adjusted correctly?

Has it always done it or did it slip once and then did it from then on?

There is no need for a heavy duty clutch. Std will be fine. If you do go HD understand that it may cause increased wear of your main bearing(s).

If you haven't got the right tools I wouldn't be tackling it. I just did a clutch & flywheel on a customers 05 Pajero & I'll tell you now you need a few fit blokes to get the box in & out. Never paid much attention to the size of a 120 6 speed though. I bet they'll still be pretty heavy!

              Goodluck with it

              Cheers
