  • Low range unlocked?

    Does anybody know if there is any mod that enable low range to be selected with the centre diff open?
    It is probably one of the most annoying things about my manual Prado 120!

    Theres no simple mod that I'm aware of. While it would be very expensive, you could install transfer case from a 120 that has an electric diff lock. The other option is to completely redesign the selector linkage so the diff lock fork is actuated by a seperate lever but I'm not sure if anyone has taken on that challenge yet.

      Why would you want low range with out the centre diff locked?

        Perhaps the only benefit of this set up would be for reversing big heavy caravans into tight places. You want the drive power without overloading the trans and easy steering but you don't want the axles locked together, especially if driving on grass as it just tears the lawn up.

        But in reality it's kind of a pointless, and probably an expensive, exercise. A bit like those twits who want to convert the front axles on the Prado into free wheeling hubs. WTF.

            Thanks, that what I was worried about, I had heard that there was a mod for Cruisers.

                  Hook up a pulley to the winch and pull it up the driveway. That way you get to use the winch occasionally.
