  • Relocate rear LSD into front Diff...

    Hi Gents,
I'm getting an E-Locker installed into my rear diff shortly and was wondering if you can then install the LSD from the rear diff into the front diff to essentially give me LSD front and Locked rear diff?

Is my logic flawed? maybe the diffs are not compatible but i would have thought they would have to be the same ratios etc?

Any persons who know about this that can offer advice would be great!

It couldn't be done because the diff centres are different so the LSD won't bolt to the Crown wheel in the front diff.

An LSD in the front also will have a negative impact on the handling and give too much feed back through the steering column. In a part-time 4wd with free wheeling hubs its less of an issue, but in a full-time 4wd you really need to stick to a switchable locker.

Ok thanks for the speedy response Williade.

So can i ask- if its full time 4WD - why do i need to engage the center diff lock on the smaller gear lever?
I can understand for low range - but what is HIGH range 4x4.
      PS i have an AUTO

Because as long as the centre diff is unlocked, the front and rear prop shafts are free to turn at different speeds. So if a single front (or rear) wheel looses grip all other three wheels will loose drive. When the centre diff is locked, both prop shafts must turn at the same speed. So the rear wheels can keep the vehicle moving when 1 or both of the front looses grip and vice versa.

And besides the rear LSD is that useless it might as well be an std diff anyway. Cheers samo lol

A lot of the new stuff you can't do this as the front diff set up is completely different to the rear diff set up. The Prados, the newer Hiluxes, 200 series, and the FJ Cruisers, all the same, no go. The old simple design thought was better for obvious reasons and less parts to manufacture. Alas, those days are gone.
