  • Auto trans service/fluid change

    Hi All,

Can anyone tell me when you should change the transmission fluid in the 5 speed Auto, i asked my dealer at the last service, stating i did a bit of off roading & had done beach driving & he said no need to as it,s a sealed unit & would,nt even consider changing it till at least 100k. But i,ve read that modern Auto should still be serviced every 20k or 2 years.
My service log book does not show a change of trans fluid at all....whats the general feeling on this!

    Cheers,

    Steve J

If you don't want to do it your self, ring around to transmission shops in your area and ask them if they have a flushing machine. If they do, ask if they'll let you supply the fluid. If they do, go to spare parts and buy 3x4L tins of toyota WS fluid and take it to the shop to have flushed.

You'll be supprised by the colour of the fluid. After 100 000km it will be brown, not cherry red.

Mine was black... Like engine oil, when I had it changed at 60.

Since then I've been more particular about what gear I drive around in.

on a standard car, it's generally about every 40,000kms.
Mine's due to be done again in 10,000. At the same time I will be getting a valve body upgrade fitted.

I'd usually recommend oil change at end of warranty, so 100k or 3 years.
                Then every 50,000klms.

Don't open a transmission in any way under warranty or you might regret it.
This especially the way Toyota treats its "customers satasfaction that always comes first" these days, not anymore!

The guys I have doing mine are using genuine oil, so even if something does play up it shouldn't cause an issue with Toyota, I still have a yr and a bit on my warranty left

                    Mr

Due to towing, I have changed mine every 20,000 k's. 190,000 up so far and NO problems.
It gets changed twice, the first is to flush out all of the old oil from lines and cooler, then re fill with clean oil again.
Much cheaper to have clean oil than to get repairs done.
