  • Clutch thrust bearing issues

I have had a new 4terrain HD clutch put in my prado. after two months there was a squealing sound occurring whenever the clutch was fully out and my foot was off it. if i just pressed the clutch in a cm or less the sound went.
Took it back and the thrust bearing was replaced with a genuine Toyota one as "they had some troubles with this kit". No probs I think, dropped it off got it replaced. Then the noise started again about a month later. Back again and then they said that it was the pivot ball that the fork pivots on. it is metal to metal and hence the squeaking.
they put a bit of grease on the pivot point, it was quiet for a day then it started again.
Personally I think it is a dodgy thrust bearing as the original lasted 280000km. The shop is talking to the makers of 4terrain as the shop has agreed it is a warranty issue.
Has any body heard of the pivot ball/clutch fork issue?

    Regards

I had this problem on a different car altogether. It was a Mazda 121 and turned out to be a broken thrust bearing. I had to replace the clutch and install a reconditioned gearbox.
04 GXL - Red Centa dual battery, Alloy B/bar, BFG AT's, Rhino Rack commercial bars x 3, GME TX3540, TJM roof cage, Outback Ideas recovery points, LHS rear drawer, 2" Dobinsons/Bilstein lift, ARB CKMA12 air compressor, CoilRite airbags, ARB 2.5m awning, MCC Dual Wheel Carrier, Eagle Eye headlights with 55w hid lo beam.

The ball ain't gonna cause the noise you describe.
It will be a dry/sh*t thrust bearing, I had that recently.
They all use the same bearing skf I think, you do get bad ones, mine was noisy after 5000klms soon as you touched the clutch pedal it went.

I got the Prado back last Wednesday from the shop, new Thrust bearing (different brand) fitted also they said that the pivot ball had two settings avail, they moved the circlip to the other setting and put it all back together, so far no squealing sounds or any other type of sound. will let everybody know how it goes over the next couple of months
            Thanks everybody for the feedback
