  • Trans feels like its holding gear while stationary

    Hey guys

Only noticed this problem a few months ago, and only happens every now and then.

When i pull up to a set of lights it feels like the transmission is holding gear and vibrates the vehicle, yet when i put the tranny in neutral or park the vibration disappears.

Has anyone else had this issue

    any help much appreciated thanks

Happens every day to me until it is warm, I just whack it into neutral. Obviously it's linked to the engine idle up, when the rpm drops to lower levels when warm it disengages. Not ever having owned an Automatic before this 120 D4D I'm not sure if it's 'normal', but it doesn't seem to be a problem.

Perhaps others may like to comment on their Auto D4D 120s when cold?

Doesn't happen to mine but do you use the idle up button?

change the gearbox fluid. The torque converter plays up on old fluid. Shudder, shift shock (gear clutch packs) and thump when TC locks up. I think the fluid loses viscosity hence the thumping.

No, no idel up button used but it grabs at idle until the engine is warm. ie. when the rpms drop by about 100-150rpm from 800 to 650-700rpm. There was no change to this effect even after the fluid was changed in my latest service. Box changes smoothly, no thumping. It changes down in sports mode fine, runs smooth, just a slight grabbing at fast idle when cold.

Injectors or engine mounts. Engine mounts are a big one for this. There not expensive. My mates (sold his D4D now) but he went through 2 lots of engine mounts plus 2 sets of injectors luckily under warranty, it was due for its 3rd set of injectors when he traded it in, was sick of it and at the time of selling it was out of warranty so was going to cost him a nice penny to replace them. His only did it when it was cold with the injectors, once it warmed up it was fine. Engine mounts it just did it cold or warm. This was his warning when either was due for replacement....Cheers Steve Should say his was an 07 D4D and use to be on here quit a lot at the time
