Often when i am driving around in our 120 5 speed at about 60 to 80KPH if i am coasting down a hill the car downshifts as if it is trying to slow down.

Is this normal?
Same thing with mine and its always on the same hills... I think it just learns and then it always does it but its a bit of a shock when your going along and it drops down 1-2 gears..

It's called Auto Trans with Intelligence, it senses the angle of the car and will drop back the gears if you touch the brakes to help slow down, likewise if your going up a hill it will hold in the gears even if you back off the throttle. A normal transmission will shift up a gear and then you when you reapply the gas it has to kick back again. Less gear changing = less fuel usage! Smart little buggers those Japs.

A pity the cruise control isn't as smart, unless you are on a flat road it's useless. How hard would it be to allow a 10 kph allowance before kicking down a gear?
