  • New CV Drive Shaft Assemblies Damaged in Transit - Are they still ok?

    Hi All,

Firstly a quick note to say what a great site this is and thanks to everyone for the hours of informative reading (and entertainment) you have all provided. Time for me to contribute!

    Here goes my first post...

I've just ordered two new Drivetech front cv joint axle drive shafts off ebay and they both arrived slightly damaged. They're heavy buggers and the packaging for both shafts was pretty banged up so I imagine the damage was done while they were in transit? The damage is on I guess what you'd call the outer most flange on the wheel end of the drive shaft. This flange is slightly dented in a couple of places on each of the two assemblies. I'm hoping that this is only cosmetic and will not affect the fitment or performance of the shafts in any way but I have no idea? They can probably be bent back into shape. I just want to be sure they're not important and don't provide any form of seal that may be compromised now they've been bent. See photos.

Can anyone tell me if they're fine to fit regardless of the dents? or should I ask the seller to make an insurance claim? I'd prefer not to have to claim or send back if the shaft can still be fitted without issue as this will cost me time and possibly more money (at least for shipping a return).

    Thanks in advance!

Thats just a shield to protect the back of the hub bearing. I would just straighten it up with some pliers and dont worry about it.
