A/T temps

Just wanting to gauge A/T temps, can someone with a scan gauge or similar post some temps for: normal driving, off road, towing, towing up hill etc.

I would be suprized to see temps over 100 in a A/T diesel but my brothers Jeep is registering over 110 on a long hill, is this common?

The temps registering will depend on where the source of the temp is reading from. When i had my NT Pajero, the scangauge took readings from a sensor in the torque convertor, so the AT fluid fluctuated quickly. Where-as on my 150 Petrol, the scangauge takes its readings from a sensor in the pan and is more stable with the temps. The Paj and the Prado have the exact same Aisin auto box, just different software to manage the shift calibrations and TC lockup. The Paj i could quite easily get the temps up to 105deg and then manually lock up the TC and it would drop back to 75-80deg, where the Prado sits at 60-65deg and only raises to 75-80 after prolonged hill climbing with the TC unlocked.

Once warmed up I get around 80-90C on a 09 GXL auto diesel. This will go higher if climbing a hill on a really hot day (sometimes 110C). Highest I ever got was around 130C whilst 4wd in really boggy sand for an extended period of time

Just got back from Recce No:6 to Vic High Country, towing my Cub camper up the Dargo High Plains Road Auto temp reached 122 Degs- around town runs 70 - 80 Degs, off road varies much better when in low range

In the 120 their are two auto temps measured, in the pan and one in the torque converter. The pan will be more stable v the torque converter. From my research much above 120 in the pan is starting to get concerning, but haven't found any thing concrete yet.

wow that's crazy, I never expected it could get that high safely, I have noticed It cools down when in low range and this is a good indicator of suitable mode for driving. thanks for the info.

do you tow in D or in 4th in S mode?

I don't have S mode, 120 D4D GXL, I Tow in D on the straight & downhill, up hill I drop down to 4th, even dropped to 3rd to see what happens, but steep hills makes the temp's climb above 100+ degs. Done 80k only, Transmission has not been serviced as far as I know, but is on the to do list
