  • Neutral in Auto

Quick little question, when winching, pushing, towing etc to put an 5sp auto gxl into complete neutral position both Auto box shifter and transfer case need to be in N? or Auto box in N is enough?

Depends on the circumstances but typically for towing select the big N in the transfer case because the oil pump in the automatic is connected to the input shaft which wont be turning when towed. Pushing the car out of the garage etc I just use the little N in the main box but that is for a few metres at a time. Winching? I would have thought you should be in D/2 if you are winching yourself or P if you are winching others. Not sure about the P to be honest, it sounds wrong. Happy for a learned opinion. I don't have a winch...

So for towing N in the transfer case and I guess it does not matter what the Auto box gear lever is set to?
