  • Prado 120 Petrol 6 Spd Manual Breathers

    Hi All,

Long time reader, first time poster.

Before anyone says the usual "do a search", trust me, I have. All across the internet.

I have spent an hour trying to look under the car as well - no luck.

    I have a 2005 Prado 120 series, 1GR-FE with 6 speed manual gearbox.

What I need help with is the location of the factory breathers for the gearbox and transfer case (I have already done the front and rear extensions). Pictures with initialising shots that show where on the car I am meant to be looking as well as pictures of the breathers itself would be very, very appreciated.

I will be honest, I have heard rumours that the gearbox breather is under the leather steering knob in the cabin - I have not checked this out. If anyone could confirm this then all I am left with is the transfer case breather.

    Thank you!

Check the diff breather threads. There are some posts about manual boxes. From memory the gearbox breather is on top next to the shift lever. There was some speculation that it was pressed into the box.

Thanks for the reply but not really what I was looking for. I have actually read all of those threads (hence why I said that I had definitely searched). I'm still no closer to finding the transfer case breather, I haven't seen a good explanation or picture yet and I'm completely lost under the car - I can't see heads nor tails of it around the transfer case.

There are drawings in those threads with the breathers shown. The transfer case are on top of the transfer case and best felt for on the passenger (near) side of the car. I put my 120 on stands and lay under the transfer case and just reached up.
