Well there you go. I was expecting you to say Duh!

Found this with search. Turns out the sensor is on the rear of the transfer case, which is before the diffs, so I dunno why your speedo accuracy hasn't changed at all, but accept what you say.

Perhaps some models do use wheel sensors for the speedo... Where's MickL when you need him?

      Awww.... ya miss me....

Double D is correct, the speedo is ABS based on all models except GX's without ABS (which use a more traditional Hall Affect Sensor on the final drive)

Signals are taken from all four wheel sensors by the ABS ECU, decoded into a single pulse signal and sent to the instrument cluster ECU/Speedo.

Aha. Thanks Mick. Luckily I didn't bet my hat on that one! Well done double_d. Getting the speedo sorted can be a real pain with diff swaps, good to know its a non-issue on the prado.

Yeah there is, but only about 1-2L per hundred.. On the Hwy fully loaded heading up to Fraser I averaged 13.3L where as I used to be doing about 15L on the same trip up. Around town is yet to be confirmed as I haven't done a full tank yet, but assuming it will be the same or a little better. I used to do 20L around town so if I can get it below 18L i'll be happy.

The average over the whole trip to fraser was 26L, which was a combination of 800km road and 400km sand (inc a heap of soft sand). This was an improvement of 4L per hundred over last years trip.... oh and didn't need Lo range in the soft as 1st gear hi had heaps of grunt!! I tried 1st Lo and it was ultra slow, which should be good for those down hill decents! Also Hwy driving with cruise control is fantasic, it actually holds top gear up most hills, and only drops down 1 gear if it's steep, where as it used to drop 2 gears all the time.

All up I'd definately recommend, especially if you have plans of going to 33" tyre.

                  Double_D.
From what I can find out (repair manual) standard diff ratios on ours is/was 3.909. (petrol auto)
The Petrol manual models have a 4.1 as does the diesels.
Do you think just swapping mine out to these ratio's would be much of an improvement?
At the moment I have to shop for a new crown wheel & Pinion gear anyway...

Timmay I just broke my rear crownwheel/pinion so I'm ordering another from the states.... do you want in? BTW my standard ratio was 3.73, I know diesels are 3.9 standard, but that's in a 2006 model, it may have been different in your model.

Anymore info on this mod? I'm still interested in diesel manual D4D diff change. Especially after frying my clutch on a steep hill towing the camper!
