Through a client, I placed a request for the D27F which unfortunately is not on their stock list. "sorry, I can only get you the D27M for $xxx.xx". (Sorry cant say the price, but it was much less than half the price of Batteries Direct) SOLD!!!!!! Now, we all know that there is a huge markup on the batteries, and I asked them to double check the price and it's their "staff price" so I'll be picking it up tomorrow!
Worth the dicking around with the cables I reckon.

Another option might also be to use a battery isolator switch (picture attached), you might not
then need to extend the cable and have the added benifit of being able to isolate the battery
in the event of an electrical fault or not using the car for an extended period.

      Cheers

Nice little device Leigh. I have seen these on Fleabay for around the $15-20 mark. Because I will have the D27M with the additional posts for accessories (which I will utilize), It seems a little pointless using this device. I will opt for extending both +ve & -ve cables (cutting back a bit and extending by solder joins and heat shrinking and tidying up with split tubing for a tidy job (hopefully).
This is my sole battery which will provide me the deep cycling functionality I require for now. Hardest decision will be on what type of terminal clamp to go for.
Anyone used these... (are they any good? or are they likely to fail with vibration?)

Yes I saw these on a thread somewhere on this forum as I remember someone commenting how huge they were. I do like the fact that they're all fuseable links.(more spare to carry but...)

Not all that big, compare the terminal size in the picture to the overall size,
from memory probably about 90x50x40 LWH. and it sits on top of the battery
anyway, if you want I can measure and post.

There is also this version available.

Just for anyone who is interested, I just removed and weighed the OE battery, 22.5 kg on scales that weigh to 0.5kg accuracy. By comparrison the D27F weighs 24.1 kg, so not much difference in the scheme of things.

                Cheers Andrew

I fit 80/100amp 12V waterproof circuit breakers (evilbay) near all batteries coz they give you both isolation and protection.

                          D27M Installed

Installed my new Optima D27M battery this arvo. Extended all necessary cables (+ve & -ve). The Cables to the Winch were the only two that didnt require extending. Not happy with the cable terminals at the moment as they dont seem to be clamping only properly. I will look around for something better tomorrow.

Looks good Craig, ordered the same one yesterday, should arrive during the week which will be handy as I have had 2 batteries (not in the Prado) die this week.

                            Cheers Andrew

Ive been thinking about one of these as an alternative to live in the back when required but for the life of me, I cant find any details about whether it can be charged on the go from a 12 volt outlet like the accessory socket.

It seems to specifically NOT mention charging from 12 volt acc outlet, would there be a reason for that?

                                http://www.arkcorp.com.au/Products/B...e-ask.tpl.html

It can be charged from 240 volts and also says it can be charged via 12volt solar panel, so why not from a 12 volt outlet in the car while on the go??

Anyone know the answer as it seems like a basic requirement to be able to keep it charged while on the go?
